Use a breather on the passenger's side valve cover?

Alright I take off my air cleaner tube from the box to the throttle body and I see oil around the end of the plastic tube and a tiny bit on the throttle body. Now I see this tube that snakes from the air cleaner tube to a grommet in the passenger's side valve cover. I can see that the oil is coming from this tube. I know it's part of the PCV system but I am wondering if I could plug up the hole in the air cleaner tube and put a breather on the valve cover. It seems to me since I cannot notice the car burning oil, it passes emissions tests, and doesn't leak oil this could be one way it's getting rid of the oil. What exactly does this metal tube that goes to the valve cover do? Does it introduce clean air into the PCV system or introduce oil fumes and such into the intake for combustion?

it sucks the crankcase gasses out and puts them through the combustion process, then out the tail pipe. That's all it does. a little oil is normal, more like a film than a leak.if that's all it is, don't worry about it.

Ditto

I stuck a little blue one on the hose so it does not vent that crap into my intake. Its is gonna vent cap all the time just it is best to filter it.

Gumby how does that work? Does it go through the filter then back into the intake? I would love to clean the intake out because of all the lovely carbon deposits in there. If I took the top half of the intake off could I just soak it in degreaser to get it clean?

That what I did, Cleaned my pleniums but the hose does not go back into the intake. All the PVC system does is vent crap out. Just best to put a filter at the vent point so it catches the oil n crap.

Course it not emmision legal if you smog test.

It is the same as the filter in the valve cover but I had the tiny filter and it easily just pluged into it.

You can pull the tube out of the valve cover and just fit a breather in there, gets the job done, and its one less tube under the hood.

So is it possible to see any tiny fuel mileage gains from putting on a breather? How often do you have to change that filter Gumby?

I would just clean a filter like that with some carb cleaner and blow it out with air when needed. Not a real important thingy.

Might as well just leave it hooked up...

Seems like a good idea Tom. It was just wishful thinking on my part that perhaps my oil disappeared in that fashion. It's probably tiny amounts burned out the exhaust or something cause I have no leaks.
