Back from Iraq and the car overheats for a min. and cools back down

Hello everybody. Just got back from Iraq last week. The cars been in storage since late April. Anyway aside from the tachometer not working sometimes (I give the dashboard a thump and it works), my only other concern is when i first start driving in the morning. After i take off the car continues heating up to 220 where it usually runs, but now it goes past it to about 240-250 and then drops back down after 30seconds or so. Is it possible the thermostat isn't opening when it should? That's my guess at the moment. I'm about to buy one anyway because I've been thinking about putting maybe a 160 in it. not sure though, i need to read up on that again.
So if you can think of anything else it could be let me know

I salute you sir, thanks for all you did.

I would say thermo stat also, but i would not go with a 160, 180-185 sounds good.

OHHH! Alive! Congrats, probably you come back with a Hussein's virus which contaminates your car.

welcome back. I wouldnt go any lower than 180, a 160 might mess up the computer in the car.

I'm a little late i know.....I'll go with a 185 then, the car is getting shipped tomorrow back to WA (everyone say a little prayer for my temporary oil leak repair and that it make it past the inspection) and then I'm pulling the motor and fixing lots of stuff and/or putting in a 3.4

And actually i'm american. Don't know alot about being a nurse, but i must say i make a decent generator mechanic/sniper combo.

Auto amerikan isst kaput!? uberhaupt nicht!

i like that, mechanic/sniper, guess that kinda makes you a universal soldier that does sound like the thermostat is sticking, but i'd go with the 185 (or the ECM won't like to go into closed loop mode)

Welcome back! I left in January and got back in July.

Good luck with the car. I'm home for the weekend. Went on a rather long cruise yesterday and now may car has an intermittent miss.
