bone stock the little engine is rated at 135 horsepower at the flywheel, along with 165 pounds of torque at the same location....Nothing to impressive, but it'll move the car.

sounds good, best of luck with everything. I wouldn't really recommend the 305 swap, if you're going through the trobule, a 350 swap would be much more effecient. And also depending on what type of swap he did (retain his 305 upper engine stuff, and just bolt it to the 350) you'd probably have just as many parts to buy. best swap on this lil motor is a 3.4L v6, 160 hp , 200lbs of tq, works good and many people on these boards have done that swap, it's now VERY VERY common. If i had v8 hopes (and didn't already have a firebird/camaro) i'd end up grabbin a 305 car, and then swapping out the 305 for a 350 or 383 stroker engine, with good cam, good heads, good valves, etc...something made to run, since factory engines in these cars, whether it's a 2.8L v6 or a TPI350 are all a tad underpowered.

ok i see what u are saying. I might do that or who knows. I hav ea few cars around here with sum 305's that i am looking at but i see what u are saying though.
If I were you and was just looking at possible cars to buy, and was concerned about power, the V6 is a waste of time. I bought my car for $2500 and have put in an additional $5000, that included my mechanic doing the 3.4 swap. For that kind of money I could have got an IROC but it's a little late.

I ask 2300$ US now for it...
My Firebird is all original except for the paint and Alpine CD player... I did a good tune-up last summer.

If you want a V8, hold out for it.. the V6-V8 swap is expensive and time consuming.
