is a Stall converter same as a torque converter? If so, whats stock rating, and where can someone get one for a decent price. I've been looking around and finding they are 200+.

Wouldnt mind putting a ever so slightly bigger behind my 3.4 when I swap also.

yea, stall convertor just means high stall torque convertor. stock is around 1500. on a rather mild motor, i wouldn't go much bigger than 2000 probably. i got mine off of ebay...i can go look up the contact info for the company i got mine from if you all want. its nice, mines a 2200 but it doesn't just free wheel at lower rpms...under light acceleration, it'll still grab pretty good. or, you don't have to rev the motor to/past 2200 to get the car moving.

um, ok. I'm confused. So you have two different kinds?

Freespin below a certain RPM?

Slright grab below certain RPM?

maybe I just need to stick with whatever the rebuild shop gave me. I just like how my car just wants to go-go-go while sitting at a light. Was told I might need higher torque converter.

We had one built by a local racing transmission/convertor builder in Snellville, GA...Neal Racing. Its the same diameter as the stock convertor, but has a stall of about 2700. It works great with her (Redraif's) cam, though it would be too much for a stocker.

Note: A V8 style torque convertor won't work, you'll have to order one built on a V6 core, The V8 convertor won't even fit in the bellhousing, even though the spline counts are the same.

how much did the custom one cost?

Good point on the v6 vs v8. Didnt think of that, and I bet most of the ones I see are v8's

I think it was like $175 or so??? I'll ask Shannon and get back to you.

Even TCI told me the V8 one would work...wrong! Not even close.
