Car starting

Hey guys i have alittle problem, nothing big just really bothersome. Whenever I try to start my car, anytime doesnt matter if its warm or cold I will try to turn my key and just here a clicking noise, you may have seen my post where i had some key problems but i got those fixed up and this happend before i ever broke my key. But ill do it over and over again and just here a click click click and then i move the stearing wheel and ill keep hereing clicks and then it just eventually catches for me. What is going on here and how can i fix this?\
Thanks
Mitchell

i have had some of the same problems.. it could be your starter(witch i would replace 1st) there are a few other things it could be..like your nutral safety switch or even your vats. but i would replace your starter first.

How expensive is it to change the starter and or the battery cables. And do you think this is all that could be wrong with it. Also there is alittle 2 pronged wire close to the battery that isnt hooked up into anything. It kind of looks like the wire that plugs into the MAT sensor almost identical to it?
Thanks
Mitch

I had a similar problem for years.. replaced the starter almost EVERY year for the past 6 years. This year, even a "NEW" starter did not help. In desperation, I looked at the starter enable relay and discovered some of the insulation had worn through and was grounding out when the interior heated up. So far, I've had NO more problems with starting after purring some heat shrink and wire loom stuff around the wire bunch.

Would this make it happen more often after it is hot? Mine is doing the same thing, but if I let it sit for 1/2 hour or more, vroom, starts right up with one turn o' the key!

Well, it's possible for you to have the same problem as I had. Also check the fusible links of the solenoid. They can also lose contact when heated up.

I'm treating it for heat soak first... way easier!

My husband proved my diagnosis yesterday. It was about 90F, went for a short drive, wouldn't start. He poured a bottle of cold water on the starter, and viola, no more heat soak.

This only cost me $3.99 to fix... for the heat shield.
