GM topend cleaner

I called a few GM dealers today to see if they had any in stock they stated that it is illegal to sell/use in california. So my question is what product can I buy that will work just as well. I know Autozone sells some stuff that you can use in your gas or suck it in through a vac line. But i want somehting that will work good. I will be doing this to my car tommorw before i change the oil.

I always had good luck with water followed by one of the generic top end or 'intake' cleaners. But mainly, I used water.

Ok so thye stock it and use it in the shop but wont sell it to you then.
Run down to Checker and pick up a berrymen top end cleaning kit. It almost as good a a GM kit, the chemicals are a tad different. You probably will have to ask the counter person for the kit since usually they keep them behind the counter. If you want to really do a job on the top end also pick up a can of 44k and run it in the berrymen can after you use all of that solution.

I have no idea about cal, but napa sells several brands that do the same thing. They are easy to spot sort of. they look like regular spray cans of carb cleaner, utill you remove the cap. Most have a threaded lip of sorts.

Wanna explain the how and why of the water thing? I'm very curious. I might like to try it.

That's not entirely true. The bigger bottles are now illegal but the small 0.8oz bottles are still sold. I use them all the time. pn 12346535 Like $5 each though. I use about 8 of them to do an injector flush and an engine de-carbon.

Also, I learned from some of the BMW boards that I frequent, a product called Seafoam is supposed to be good for breaking up carbon but I've never seen this product in a store. Maybe you could google "seafoam"

Sure:

And if you read through, I think the second one, you'll figure out that you can stop wasting money on seafoam and make your own, if you refer the emulsion.

In the bike world seafoam is use in the gas to keep carbs clean. It does an awesome job where other products seam to do nothing but cost money.

Gumby, it is used alot, more because people are lazy, but us multi carb boys like to pull the line and run our own 'special sauce'. In one of the threads above, Sea foam's composition is listed. You'll see why we run the stuff direct rather in our precious tanks.
