300 bucks: what to do?

so i just got about 300 dollars from my parents and i have decided that i want to put it into the engine of my camaro.. it has the 2.8L and i was hoping the mods would break it into at least the mid 16's.. i dunno maybe im just being a little optimistic but hey to each his own. i was thinking about a 50 shot af nitrous.. or a ram air system. lemme know what you guys think. and i am not gunna swap the motor since im getting my uncles 12 second z28 next year and i want a daily beater that will take out some ricers if the occasion should arise. thanks for all of your input.

TomP has a pretty nice tune-up thread out ... go through and tune it up ... put in good 'ol performance ditributer, plugs, cables, make a custom cold air intake, etc ...

You have the best intake these cars can have, leave it alone. Just remove the deflectors in it, and call it done.

How much tools, time, knowledge do you have?
Large stereo system in the car?
State Inspection/Smog?
When was last tuneup?

If it were me i'd pick up the crane 2030 cam, some nice mandrel bent exhaust, and save up the rest for some pacesetter headers. Assuming its in good tune, of course.

heck, after the cam and the exhaust you won't have much left for the headers, just enough to wait for antoher check. Good luck on whatever you come up with, 300 bux doesn't go to far these days.

Do TomP's tuneup. Any extra performance stuff would work better with the motor in good tune and the basic's done, especially with only $300. If that doesn't interest you you could always do SFC's. Those are supposed to be one of the best mods for the car and the parts are only $180, just need someone to weld.

www.thirdgenresource.com they got'em.

well the tune of the car is great. since it only has 16,000 miles it really wouldnt need a tune-up anyway. but my uncle had it done before he sodl it to me 2 months ago. so that doesnt need to be done. and how do you remove the deflectors in the intake? any more comments would also help.

Pull the top of that dual snorkle intake up.
Pull the filters out
(2) 1/4" (I think thats the size) screws on each deflector. 8 screws in all.
Put them in ziplock bag and store them.
Put intake back together
done

No large radio, crank pully
Maybe a hotter coil.
Higher ratio rockers at 16k miles, I wouldnt want to take that engine apart, or do alot to it.

since it only has 16,000 miles, you could keep it completely stock, put it in a garage, and find a real beater to drive around.

You could probably do 15's with spray. If I were you (assuming you could find a deal) I'd get me a bottle. Best bang for your buck hands down. If you wanted long term I'd say cam and some porting.

well ive already done all the little stuff. i have platinum plugs, new distributer new wires, good tune, i just took off the deflector plates but i didnt notice much of a difference. i was thinking about juicing it just cause it is easy, but i also want power all the time. so what kind of cam? a crane 2030? and also if i was going to use nitrous do they have a 2.8 specific kit? and i looked for SFC's on the website that is linked but i couldnt find them.. Dale asked about my tools, time and knowledge, well i have a garage full of tools, and i have plenty of time, if the car is outta commission for awhile i still have my old jeep. and mechanical knowledge my father has plenty of.

reason I ask, if we suggest a cam swap, but you dont have knowledge or tools to pull your distrib cap, then we have waisted everyones time.

SFC's isnt a bad idea, slightly over rated, but is a noticable difference.
