Went to the track with new cam

With its rough tuning, car ran a 10 FLAT My 60 foot was a 2.1 too. Not too bad considering it's an open rear and has no formal tuning (Yet...). MPH was 67.4.... I made two runs with these numbers, a few others had traction issues.... I'm proud of the little motor, I honestly didn't think it had it in it..... I'm positive I can break into the 9 second range with better weather (humidity was 98% !) A Posi is defiantely on my wishlist for the future, and the Nitrous is getting plumbed in ASAP, everybody at the meet said that I might run a 13.xx on a 75 shot A friend will be posting some video of me VS an LS1....close race, and NO, he didn't spin

That's a 15.6-15.7 in the 1/4... that's a tad quick, there! Especially for a basically stock 3.4? This is a 1/8th track?

Stick? Auto? Shift points? Specs please

Just the same cam as you Doward, hedders and an Auto with shift kit. After all that BS with the cam, it's nice to know that it actually knocked the time down

That is a good time but I hate 1/8 miles tracks.

I know not every place has a full 1/4 track but 1/8 miles is super hella lame. Who ever came up with the idea should be shot.
less track is no fun. They should of went to 1/2mile if 1/4 wasn't enough.

Its kind of to easy to make a car run quick for a short distance. Id love to see some 1/2 miles tracks / racing. That would be a real contest.

Great times F-Bod!

Gumby, we all know you HATE 1/8 mile tracks, you mention it frequently, but have you ever run at a track yourself?

Frankly, I'm not driving the 8 hour round trip to the nearest 1/4 mile strip. Got an 1/8 miler ten minutes from the house, 15 bucks on test-n-tune night and all the runs you care to get in and they don't even LOOK at your car.

I agree with the tech inspection thing. We rolled up there with like 15 3rdgens', it was great (I ws faster than a FEW v8 cars). They don't even look under the hood, and the facilities are uber nice. 1/4 mile is over an hour from my house, and you'd be lucky to get in 2 passes on TNT night. Once the nitrous is in, I won't even need a blowdown tube (bottle only goes into the car when I'm racing anyhow), they fill bottles at the track for 4 bux a pound, which is a little high, but convenient. I don't know very many people that run at a full 1/4 (other than prostock guys), a day of racing gets expensive over there....

You should just skip that concept and go straight to miling... which does exist and is insanely trickey, and far more convenient for street rides you're trying to get gas milage out of since running into your redline at 120 with tall gears will *kill* a mile time.

Ahhh... the headers, gotcha! I know the exhaust is absolute junk on these cars stock. What exhaust are you running, after the headers?

Yeah, I got ONE run in - 16.7, on a horrid launch. I feel the car has a 16.3-16.4 run in her. Very sweet times.

you're kinda making me want to put my setup into a 3.4 block now. i could see another tenth or so with the extra .3 liters.

You'd see more than a tenth I'd imagine. I dropped two seconds going to the 3.4 from the 2.8 (maybe a bit more). That extra 20 ft/lbs and 10 hp from displacement would really help. Displacement does wonders for power limitations...I think... I ain't as fast as you yet, don't think it'll happen N/A. Hey Doward, How about a turbo BACK system (you've seen the ones that are over the rear end right?). Watch out when I spray though AM91, I'm anticipating a mid 14 second pass at least.

if you're sprayin it, i want to see some more . once i get (whenever it happens to be) my carb setup on mine, i'm hoping for ATLEAST 14.8Xs...should be more but atleast that. before i go to the track next time, i'd like to finish my intake spacers and get my vacuum advance distributor on the motor. i think that i'll have a little better control of the timing that way and that should play to my advantage a little bit.

P.S. i've got a 9.51 @ 73.5mph 1/8th mile. you think you can find another half-a-second, N/A?

I dunno.... I'm sure some chip tuning would do wonders, maybe some 1.6 rockers. There really isn't that much more stuff I can do in the way of NA boltons (I Am NOT pulling the heads!). I may see a 9.8x but that would probably be it. Traction is really a big factor, the open rear and Hard rubber aren't helping me at all. My pops want's me to get some diferent tires to race with, so that may be the next thing. I'm scared that when I spray that I'm going to spin hitting 2nd.

Yes, I've seen them... I wouldn't get one of those, myself though... WAAAY too easy to cut the turbo out, and walk away with it!

That's why you weld a safety chain onto it and weld the other end to the frame . I can't plumb one in with my hedders the way they are, so I have to go the cheesy route.

Have you thought about supercharging it, then? That'd be my recommendation

I got the bugs worked out since when I PM'd you. My previous best was a 10.652 at like 63 mph or so. It was a humid night too (bout the same conditions), I only made 3 passses that night because of starter problems though. So a 6 tenth gain is very respectable from a cam swap (especially in the 1/8th).

fbod what size header bolts do you have? i just got my headers off of ebay today but i have no bolts. say a prayer for me im gonna attempt to make my own y pipe for this thing. im not real happy with the headers because there are some dings and stuff in them but oh well, they are still way better than the manifolds that i have on it now. i guess thats what i get for buying used stuff. lol i mainly wanted then so i could get rid of my exhaust leaks that i have.

I dunno, the ones that came with mine were wrong so the muffler shop got me some special ones for them. I know they are a metric thread pitch, but that's it, sorry

haven't had time to do it yet. i've been planning on doing it for a while but haven't had time yet. my dad's 350 S-10 project is starting to come to a close so maybe we can get on swapping my car to carb here before toooo much longer. don't hold your breath waiting for it though.
