Cruise Control Problems

Recently I changed the distributor oring because it was leaking like crazy. Well when i was putting it back in I broke part of the small T that connects the vacuum hoses that come out of the top of the manifold. I believe that one of them is an emmisions hose and the other is for the IAC or something because when it was broke the car ran terrible and had no power. Well i capped off the broken part of the tee and bought a tee from the parts store and spliced into the hose beside it. Well the car runs fine, but the cruise control doesnt work. I'm not real sure why it doesn't work or if it has anything to do with that vacuum line. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it doesn't work or if there is something around the distributor that i may have hit but didnt realize it to make the cruise control stop working?

Anyone have any ideas of what may be wrong? Or could anyone tell me how the cruise control works or at least if it works from vacuum or not?

Your cruise servo should have two vacuum hoses going to it. One is the vacuum source, and the other is a vent that goes through the firewall to a brake pedal switch. Since the cruise stopped working when you broke the connector, check and see if you are getting vacuum to the servo.

The tee off the manifold that you say you broke, if routed correctly, has nothing emissions related on it. The big hose that goes to the driver side is for the power brake booster and the smaller side goes to a hose, then another tee fitting. One of the fittings runs all the way over to the cruise control and the other goes into the firewall and is the vacuum source for all of the HVAC stuff(heater controls).

The ECM controls the cruise control modulator, which is located in the front passenger side of the car.

The ECM uses the VSS signal to calculate how much throttle the vehicle need to maintain the desired speed and applies vacuum to the modulator to pull in the cable and open the throttle.

I have the shop manual with the schematic and diagnostic procedures, but it is 7 or so pages. Too much to post here. I can scan and e-mail it to you if you want.
