broke timeing chain again

well it seems i snapped the timeing chain again had it changed last october is this something common in these engines?

cause i love how it just dies going around a corner "both times now"

is there any other problems i should be looking out for?

im debateing on putting a cam in anyone know some good specs ?
ie one that works well in a 3.1 id prefer some more power but im not asking for 300 hp lol
but id still like an ok idle ive seen some cars where there on the verge of stalling at idle lol

Something must be binding if the chains keeps breaking.
I would look at the cam and bearings.

i had a shop do it last time
its been 25k miles since the last fix but that cost me 500 "did have some other things done
but i mean damn the car had 95k when it first broke now 112k

i had to have the full ignition system done last time as it was part of the problem
wouldnt something binding make it harder for revveing or some kind of powerloss?

cause it happend just like before runs tip top and BAM car shuts off and im left coasting into a parking space
and then no restart distrubiter isnt spinning
no lifter movement
but you can tell the pistons are moveing

its one of 2 things timeing chain again or i snapped the end of the cam off
"havent found out yet just everyone thats looked at it says timeing chain and its the exact problem i had before so hence i figure thats the cause"

that is really wierd. if you have broken two chains, i would think that there is something else wrong. i don't really know what it could be though, because if the crank were bent or something, you'd know it. if the cam were bent, you'd know it... i can't think of any good reason for that to happen! i run my motor 6-7k rpms, a lot, and haven't had any timing chain problems (keeps fingers crossed!). when you get it fixed, if you happen to find anything out, please tell us! i am very curious what is causing this!

Did you change the sprockets with the chain?

I would think it would be a binding cam or maybe the Dist is binding making the cam bind? Maybe the cam walked and is binding.
Not enough oil so the cam binds. To much oil making the cam walk and bind.

I just can't see the crank being a problem. Where it leads the rest follows. But its the rest doesn't follow right..................

It's so simple
TELL THEM TO REPLACE THE TENSIONER!!!!
I'll bet it's never been replaced.
It's breaking & the chain is getting caught.
Also now drop oil pan & I'll bet you'll find plastic in oil pump pickup screen.
Tensioner that triangle thing in middle of chain.

What he said. You have to replace that thing, even though they don't think you do!!

has 2 bolts, sits between the 2 sprockets. Usually, the upper 'teeth' break off.

Was a new chain & new gears ever installed?
Your response is kinda vague or meaning that one time they installed a new chain & no new gears.
Read my description of the tensioner, as that's what it does, keeps proper relationship tension.

A proper timing chain job will consist of replacing the timing cover seal, all gaskets, timing chain, cam AND crank sprocket, and the timing tensioner.

As for a cam, I'd do a MTC-5 cam, if you just want a little more cam

Honestly, though, you'll see bigger gains with headers/catback first!

im sorry for spelling errors im up way to late lol.
it was a 430 dollar job chain sprockets gaskets and what not
the tensioner isnt listed in the service manual but i do see it drawn into as connected to the block
i know the gaskets where new they had to do that 2 times because 1st time they forgot to put resein on the gasket and didnt torque the bolts to spec so i had a coolent leak shooting from the chain cover gasket

i had all of this done @94k miles
car now has 112k miles

the also put a new ignition modual coil and full distribretor
new plugs "where fouled from all the starting attempts"
new wires new cap and rotor all ac delco

also had starter and knock sensor done all with in 3 weeks
starter went out also related to attempts at starting and they broke the knock sensor when they put that on so that was free

about the same time i did all the rest of advanced tune up
air filters "upgraded to duel snorkle"

so it was running great

doward at the moment i have 2 1/2 inch y pipe back manderal bent
it has a new high flow cat the muffler is the down fall of the system lol its high flow but 2 1/2 in and deul 2" tail pipes lol
that still leaves me wondering

as the car sits it will crank and crank no movement of the valvetrain"looked in the oil fill hole with flashlight and distrubetor isnt turning "rotor " ya i took the cap off and cranked to see

i had the modual and coil tested "just incase at autozone both passed

the shop says they will warrenty it free of charge "aslong as its the timing chain"
ya i figured that but my luck they had installed something wrong and it broke something being that everything this shop dose
i or they have to refix "well when i have the tools nearby

but ya ill keep everyone updated as to what the problem is
if it is the timing chain ill let you guys know the brand so you dont buy it

I used the cheapest cost chain. $30. So far that's lasted near 30,000 miles.
That cost makes no true big deal on these engines. MAYBE a HI PO V8, but our V6 engines, buy least expensive ya can.
Your breakage came from the tensioner breaking up.
Distb not turning due to no camshaft movement.
Not saying this shop is bad, but the reassembly will take proper knowledge & time to do right. More than anything else time.
Starter gone bad due to aged/weather beaten-road salt damaged wiring down there. You're in rust belt, the car is near 20 years old, buy new wires & battery cables & IF original starter, it'll be ok again. Clean all connections and make sure STAR washers are used.
GM starters last very very long time. Wiring doesn't hold up well under to long never touched conditions. As in too long near 20 years.

oh no the point was every time they fixxed one problem "they caused a 2nd one"

they would fix one thing and break another

hence i had to keep takeing it back
all the things they broke they repaird free just they would break something when fixxing that lol

ive just been getting so irritated i finaly figured i wouldnt have to go back there lol
