Port/Polishing heads?

Good friend of mine has access to a machine shop and likes to work on engines. Wiuld it be worth porting and polishing the 3.1 heads? I would think he knows what hes doing since he worked on hundreds of engine before. Any other modifications be required with porting/polishing of heads?

yes you need to find someone that actually deals SPECIFICALLY with these heads, as most people just screw them up by doing things they should not do and harm the performance of them.

Hes worked on MANY MANY engines, mostly SBC's and big blocks. He's had some experience with V6's so I can assume he might know how to do it right. It was his idea to do this to my car anyway.

How long does it take?
Anything else need to be modified? ECU? Intake/Exhaust Manifolds?

that is the main thing NOT to do. But alot of "V8" porters, do it... and then it kills the flow rates of the head.

how long? hell I would expect a few days at the least. A GOOD one up to two weeks. But that would contain flow bench testing to ensure equality between ports.
Do you need to modify anything? not really. Just reset the ECM.

Reseting the ECM meaning un hook the battery for 20 minutes?

I think I just might go ahead with this. Do they do intake and exhaust sides or only intake?

10-15 should do it.
Yes, both sides should be done, but in different manners and final grits.

Put it this way, the last head I did... I took 2 weeks to finish and the exhaust was down to 400 grit... yes, there was an actual reflection in the aluminum ports. The intake I took to 220 grit. Still some turbulance to mix the A/F up, but still allow smooth flow.

sound? not really.
Performance? might be noticable, if done correctly.
