rOLLER TIPED ROCKER

hI aLL

i HAVE THE 3.4L crate engine, with the Holley 4 barrel, Edelbrock intake manafold, headers. the stock 3.4 cam. is going to the 1.6 ratio roller tiped rocker worth it (really worth it) or should I just put the 1.5 ratio roller tips.

don't bother with roller tips, go with full roller.

less friction= less heat= more power

not a ton but worth the cash

3-5 hp at peak. I took my roller tipped back off.

Also pre-warning. If you go to 1.6, you need to make the pushrods longer to the tip of the rocker hits center on the valve stem.

why do you say that? I'm running 1.6s with stock pushrods and have no issues.

Dean found this info a while back, and linked me to the source. Dont have it anymore.

When I pulled me 1.6 rockers off a few weeks ago after them being on for 1.5 years. You could see where the valve stems where worn. It was all on one side of the stem, when it should be all over the top.

Also shows the valves were not rotating like they should IMO.

I've been running my 1.6s for atleast 2 years and haven't had any problems. I'm surprised you were able to see any wear with the roller tip, regardless of the angle. do the rollers still turn?

Hi again

Just what would going to the 1.6 RR do? would it reduce torque & extend the top end + it puts more load on the cam?

they will give you more valve lift which should help topend power. i wouldn't think they'd hurt your torque any, though. they won't put that much more load on the cam.

I tested a few, and the tips still did roll.

Center of roller was right at the edge of the valve stem.
Fully open, center was about center on the valve stem.

for the $$$$$ of full rollers, you can get a cam that will do more w/the rockers and still have some scratch left

This was over a year ago, so dont cuss me if this is wrong.

I belive it needed to be 6.28" long. I found some OTC mufstang pushrods at 6.25 which is longer then ours, and IMO close enough. I never did buy them though.
