looking to buy a 83 2.8

hello. im new to the f-body scene and was looking to buy a 83 camaro in my area. its only a 2.8, but i prefer that anyway since i just want decent gas mileage and am not looking for power, i got my power car already. what are some things i should look at when i go to look at it. it has 95k on the odometer, auto tranny, t-tops are in good shape and dont leak. any help is apreciated.

93s never came with 2.8s. 3.4s and 5.7s only, and those were fourth gens not thirds.

in a 93 the biggest thing to look at is that tranny. at 95k its the part that's getting closest to the end of its lifespan. Feel it out very carefully through the shifts, with and without load.

ah

well like any car that old watch for all the normal things. Oil leaks, tranny leaks, rear end leaks. There was nothing specific to that year that you'll really need to worry about.

it's possible that the car might have the 200c three speed, in which case i'd keep looking. It's a shoddy excuse for a transmission.

the 200c is doing just fine in my berly.. though it does need the overdrive.. so i need the 200r4 *sighs*... from what i understand from reading on here.. the earlier 2.8 blocks (1982-85?) were a worse design and most unless they were taken care of well, wouldnt last past 100k miles... somthing about the oil gallies i believe.. anyways.. ive been wrong in the past when i posted things, but im sure some one will correct me if im wrong ,

Probably better off with the stang. I wouldn't buy anything older then a 87 3rd gen, though my 86 is a dream boat.

Them 81/82-85 years I really didn't like anything GM did. They were trying to be more eco friendly but were cheap about it at first. Cars were fine new but from my own experiance they aren't reliable in the long term. Get an 86/97+ 3rd gen V6 and it will last forever like a toyota. And look better.
