2.8 runs rough! why? replaced HG

I bought this 88 camaro 2.8 MPFI from ebay. I was told it had a blown head gasket so I replaced the gasket. I've got it together and started the car. It runs bad. It shakes and putters. What could cause this? Sensor, vac line, valve lash etc. ?

Here is a pic of how my dist. looks installed. The dark spot on #1 is what I chose for the #1 spot on the cap. Is this correct? To make it idle I have to turn the cap as far as it can go and that doesn't seem right. If I could turn it more I would but it won't move anymore.

Why are there 3 marks on the balancer? I chose the larger of the three and set it to 0 on the timing tab. I made sure I was on the compression stroke and that the piston was at TDC.

yes. 1 3 5 is on the ps side and 2 4 6 is on the dr side.

I know you have to have #2 cyl. up at TDC before you can stab the dist.

Rogers, ok I belive thats up by fayette right? 3 hours from me.

EST is electronic spark timing, its a wire you have to disconnect thats over by the right strut mount, and your heat/air shizzel. Its brown wire.

Then start the car up and adjust timing to 10deg.
Tighten dizzy back down
reconnect wire.

How did you adjust the rockers?

Do you have one of the haynes/chiltons manual? If not, its 20 bux wisely spent.

my buddy did most of the work while I wasn't there. After the heads were installed he counted a certian amount of turns, once it was loose enough he put in the pushrod and then tightened them down the same amount of turns it took to loosen the rocker up. I know if they are to tight the car might run like crap.

No I haven't picked one up yet. I can go to autozone.com and find out most anything I need. I didn't find this until we were almost done. I'd hate to pull the valve covers off. Man that sucks.

Yeah, it's about 25 min or less from fayetteville. Were U?

Counting the turns on how much it loosed is not a an accurate way at all. After the pushrod has some drag on it, you turn it 1.25-1.5 turns more.

That is, when thats the compression cylinder as well.

How your dizzy picture is, is not how mine is. My plugs are facing the rear more on mine.

Also re-check your timing with the est disconnected.

Im in LR, NLR, Sherwood, Jacksonville area. Basically, central arky.
