no compression=multiple dead valves!
well, today was good, i found that i wont be needing to pull my motor to do rings, i managed to kill a couple of valves, so my question is, i still have my 1986 2.8 v6 heads, can i use these, i plan on sprucing them up, P&P and maybe shaving them before they go on, and definetly doing headers, are the valve springs the same? how about the combustion chamber volume?, about how much should i shave the heads to get a 10.5-11 CR? and how close would i be getting to the water jackets in the heads when i port them? lastley, will i run into any problems with intake manifold sealing in the heads after they are shaved do to the angle change of the sealing face?

the heads are identical.
i would be wary of self-porting the heads, if you do it wrong you can totally f it up worse than stock. shaving the heads to get CR will work, but you will need to check for piston to valve clearance, and if you want 11:1 you will definitly need some valve reliefs machined into your pistons. you need to mill the intake base as much as you do the heads or you will have problems sealing. Oh and if you shave the heads you should get shorter pushrods too, or you can run into valve & rocker problems.
overall i would suggest custom pistons if you want to gain a lot of CR, you can do the head route but in the end if you do it right its gonna cost almost the same.

thanks, i just found some infoabout the heads, if I'm gonna port them, i should leave that vane alone right?, and i wont go too crazy with it, just gasket matching , ya know, just stretch them out a little. im just going to find a thinner gasket since it seems i will run into intake sealing and valve train clearences., ty for the input

As MR dean showed me When you shave the heads, and all that. Not only do you mess with the height of the pushrods. You are also creating a leak between head and the intake.
To bump up compression as far as your wanting to take it, you would have to do some serious millage creating alot of problems. IMO you would be best with just checking for flatness and then using thin head gaskets.
As for the heads themselfs, they are the same. I have seen conflicting storys of the springs being different/same per 2.8/3.1/3.4. but unless you plan to go to massive valve lift later, the stock springs should be fine.
