my 91 camaro runs good and strong with excellent oil psi while driving,.but when i come to a light or drive thru, the guage reads lower then 40 psi., but never in the red.,.,.,is this ok,. also if i run 10 30 instead of 5 30 would this help? this did not start happinging intill i did a oil change a while back!! oh also i have a small leak on back of intake {not distributer seal} im always checking oil level and im not losing any conciderable amount ,. but im always checkin anyway because of this leak.,.,.

Mine is always right above 40 when driving and drops down to 15 or 20 at an idle. It's always done this. Thicker oil will give you higher pressures, especially when cold, but yours is fine. Oh, I run 5-30 all the time. Higher pressure isn't always better, you just want to make sure that you have pressure.

mine goes down to "10"ish when idleing (my car idles at ~600RPM). usualy up above 40 at cruise. one thing to keep in mind as well is that GMs guages SUCK!!! it's a best guess.

its my understanding that 900rpm is the correct ideling rpm's! Is there somthing wrong with your's or is this on pourpos, because of mods?

TomP a fews years back said his read 0 when stopped and warm.
Rust is what brought his ride to a hault.
Though Im not all giggles about mine running near 20 after 7 years od 40+
1 bad oil change goofed it. Wasn't the oils fault. Don't run Rotella in a hi mileage motor. Stuff super cleans your engine. Cleaned mine to well. But lots of folks swear by it. Keep the engine sparkle clean inside.

I do a lot of highway driving in the summer, I like the extra protection of a 50 weight. Mobil 1 also flows very well for a 15 weight... It pours even more quickly then 5-30 dino!

What is the usualy temp of motor oil???
What kind of oil temps do guys with coolers run at???
I actualy thought of trying to do like Subaru does.
They run an adapter on the oil filter to run coolant through and cool the oil.

is there ppl here running oil coolers?
other then the lil leak from the back of my intake,i really dont lose/burn any oil. and i actually have around 100k on rebuilt 3.1, so im doing pretty good I also still have excellent compression from all 6 cylinders,.,.
i would concider using one just to prolong the life of my block. I live here in the middle of the mojave desert so the temp here are over 100 even at nite [imagin that], and any how, during the hottest parts of the day i dont think my radiater comes on even once during my straingt 50 mile trips to 29 palms ca, i run cool all the way there and back,,just as long as i hit more green lights then red lol,.,.but there is a long streach of just desert,.god forbid i break down there without a cell phone,.,. [ i just jenxed myslef huh?] lol
so basically my temp are necer over the middle mark unless im sittin then my trusty fan comes on and does its job!!

Mine idles at 750 with 10-15psi when warm, driving warm it's about 30-40.
Cold engine, at idle it's at 40, while driving it's at 50.
I am running Valvoline VR1 Race motor oil, 20w50.
Car has 160K miles on it.
EDIT: just noticed I am in the V6 forum.
