I've pretty much lost all hope of getting a phone call from them. They've tested the ECM, changed or tested the pickup coil, ICM, switches, etc, and are going from wire to wire I guess.

The Chilton manual didn't give me as much as I was looking for in wiring schematics, but the Haynes might have what I need. I'm looking it over at the moment.

Anyone know of any super detailed wiring diagrams for an 89 2.8 ignition system on this site or the net?

Tim eto either get a new mechanic or do it yourself for sure. No Spark problems are EASY to solve, you just have to have a test light/Digital Multimeter to do it.

The manual in the Haynes manual is about as good as it gets. It gives you the power source, wire colors, fuse locations, and all the other stuff you need to know so it should be all you need.

Might seem obvious, but I noticed that you didn't mention changing or checking the ignition coil...not to be confused with the pick-up coil. Did you try that? I hear they give problems when they get old....and they are cheap to replace (so I hear)

Let us know how it turns out!

The key cylinder and the ignition switch are totally different, there is no electrical connection at the cylinder itself.

The switch is mounted to the steering column about 1/2 toward the firewall.

I had a no spark issue that had me baffled. I checked everything over and over. My ignition lock cyl would not turn backwards anymore. I had the part for about a month but had been putting it off. I figured this would relax my frayed nerves. After the install I turned the key to check it and my car started right up. Before it would just spin and spin. I can't explain it but it fixed my car.

Apparently, there's no power going into the ignition coil. I've asked them about the pickup coil, module, ign switch, ECM, etc. They say all the components are good and it must be a shorted wire or something.

Tomorrow or Monday I'll probably tell them to stop and get it towed. I'll change everything myself and if it doesn't work, I'll find out what fuses are where and put in new wires until it starts.

that sucks, i would check each wire (at different points in the length of the wire and see it its getting any power.) i had to do it to find a short in an integra i had, it was about (the break in the wire) 6 inches from the main fuel relay. buy that time i had spent about 220.00 for a 3.00 fix. but it happens.

Did they ever check the ecm fuse in the fuse holder in the engine compartment? I know it cuts out the ecm power and everything else goes with it. The car will still crank, but I think everything is dead. I'm not 100% sure that the ignition system goes to, but it may. Just check it out.

also check wires to pickup coil to make sure they are not pinched or shorted this will cause the same problem.
