Damn! Nice job! Those valve seats look perfect! If you get a big HP increase, maybe I'll have to look into finding a 2.8 that I could use for parts and polish it up. But really, Nice work man.

Ported Heads
They look really nice, Hey Dave how much do you charge for the pair? I'm seriously interested in getting some in about 1 1/2 months. Is there a horsepower difference that you can tell?

Re: Ported Heads
i dont have any cores i can do,yeah a port job is one of the better things to do,but gains will be at there best with headers and a cam, ported heads are just part of it.
talk to pairtoe he has a set i just did with brand new comp cams springs locks and retainers that hes letting go for a great price

Re: ported iron heads : pics
yeah they are def worth it. they flow 10 times better then stock. although i had a bigger cam and roller rockers and other things to help out i cant really tell you the diffrence between them and the stock alone, but they are def much better then stock. i think dave ported mine out a little more than the ones in the picture though if im not mistaken. but if your interseted pm me for details.

Re: ported iron heads : pics
yes u are correct urs are ported out more then what is pictured, i never got a chance to take finished pics of those heads when they were
Re: ported iron heads : pics
The heads in the pics look more like gasket matching (the "shark fin" is a good way to tell how much has been removed). Were the pokets ported as well?
I've been looking at lots of porting pics lately, thinking of porting my iron heads to sell (actually the entire upper matched/ported). I won't need them once the hybrid is started.

Re: ported iron heads : pics
Cool. I've learned that boosted heads are hard to "overport" because you don't have to worry about velocity issues. Ben told me that the 3400 heads can be opened up alot more than the 3500 heads because of the aftermarket metal gaskets, in turn making the 3400 heads flow better (than 3500). I'm not going through the extra trouble of porting the 3500 stuff, just gonna match it.

Re: ported iron heads : pics
yup my new heads are actually getting cnced into the water jackets and then welded back up to increase the runner volume.the fin will also be gone form the heads.
the thing to remeber is the car will suffer when not in boost,so for something daily driven or mostly street driven u want to avoid losing velocity even if turbo charged

Re: ported iron heads : pics
Mine isn't a DD,lol. I have less than 1000 miles since last Sept. The body still has less than 90k.
I don't know how that's going to work loosing the fin all together, it helps divide the air going around the valve stem. I'm curious to see.

Re: ported iron heads : pics
What kind of dremel bits do you use to do that. I am going to gasket match my iron heads when I get them rebuilt for the new motor. Any methods? I also heard that it is bad to polish the intake ports just so that the fuel mixes.

Re: ported iron heads : pics
i use a die grinder with carbide bits, yeah when u do a port job u dont want to polish the intake ports in the heads, normally u finish up the ports with a 36=80 grit tootsie roll to runn the ports back up a lil bit, though on a fuel injected motor u can mirror polish the entire intake runner behind the injector
