Cleaning the intake

What is the best way to clean the intake? More like how do I do it and what can I use without messing the engine up. I read somewhere that spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body will work fine but I'm not sure. Did a search and didn't really find anything. Thanks in advance.

Any way of doing it without taking the whole intake off? I know it sounds stupid but I guess that there is no way to spray cleaner in there while the engine is running?

oven cleaner and the local car wash works good

might take paint off the valve covers though, possibly

hell just the spray nozzle at the car wash cleans transmission and other parts real good without any chemicals at all, so...

good luck

Get some nice Delco wires / plugs and a new distributer cap / rotor. You'll be amazed at the difference.

read up on the TomP tune up, and peruse the aftermarket parts for upgrades on things

Picked up the seafoam to clean the intake. Where is the best place to pour this in?

Look at the brake booster on the drivers side firewall. There is a large vacuum hose that runs from it to the intake manifold. undo it from the brake booster and put a small funnel in the hose. Start engine and pour seafoam in slowly while engine runs. When can is empty, reconnect vacuum line and let engine idle. You will start to notice the car smoking really bad (that is what it is supposed to do....) after about 5 minutes idleing, run it to 2k rpm's for a minute or two and then let it idle until it stops smoking. Carbon cleaned from intake and valves!!!!

Already tried the brake booster and the engine won't run with it unhooked. I got a spray bottle and put the whole thing through the throttle body and no difference in the carbon builup. It's pretty thick on the walls of the intake.

just take the intake off. its a very easy 20 minute take off... simple as cake. and if its old, go ahead and replace the gaskets (17.00 or so for a WHOLE intake and valve covers set of gaskets - felpro i think). i went ahead and got a whole pack of carb cleaner for the intake (8 pack). i just sprayed the crap out of it, painted it, smoothed down the surfaces and put the gaskets on and bolted it back up runs much better.
