Cam Selection + Other Valid Questions.

hey guys/gals, im buying either a 3.1l or 3.4l engine within a week. i have a 91 camaro with a blown 3.1 at the moment, 2nd blown motor . due to leaky gaskets this jackass claimed he replaced and said he owned a engine r&r shop and jerked me around. more and alot of. anyways, i know im going to be told to put a 3.4 in it, but thats probably what im going to end up doing. however, before the motor is actually installed, id like to put a few extra $$$ into it before hand so i dont have to screw around with it later. which cam should i go with, with these select 3.

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ry_Code=16-CAM

let me give you some more information. i have a 700R4 tranny which im going to put a 1650 stall torque converter into when i replace the motor. what i want is so when im stopped at a stop sign, and i floor it, to burn out like crazy with the ability to accelerate a whole hell of a lot more while still getting good gas mileage and have a better current 4k+ acceleration without having to worry im going to blow my engine AGAIN. i dont plan on taking off my valve covers, just want a cam. my exhaust setup is currently stock pipes with CAT delete + fart cannon on rear, so its practically a straight pipe from manifolds back. since these motors / cars dont choke with air intake, and i have cold air intake installed, im considering headers because putting in a high perf cam without headers just seems pointless. but im still in the "buying headers / 3.4L engine" phase due to the fact that i have some questions. which cam would you suggest IF i did this:

3.4L W/ headers, and 1650 stall torque converter to achieve the results i desire?

how much +hp can i expect to see with headers and the desired cam each of you repliers suggested? btw, i have a smog delete pulley installed, if that matters.

ALSO!!!!: are all of the accessories (ie.. water pump + ps pump) interchangable between 3.1L's and 3.4L's including the smog delete pulley?

Thanks.

get the 260h cam, 1650 stall is pretty much a stock converter.look around on some of the other v6 camaro boards and try to find a used tci 10 inch converter from one of the 4thgen v6 guys.if u cant find one a converter out of an s-10 pickup is a better part then the stock converter

also u can get that 260h cam from deltacams lot cheaper.firstfirebird just got his for 100$'s with new lifters

how convenient, delta is close to me what stall would u guys recommend i get? i found anywhere between 1500 and 4500 new, but reman for $150 with no shipping charge.

my dad said to choose the right tc what i want to do is go down the freeway at 55mph, in my highest gear, look at my rpms, then, get a stall just below that so i dont burn the tc up. is this correct?

one thing i noticed is that you said you arent taking off the valve covers, but youre doing a cam swap. youre gonna have to take them off to pull the rockers loose at least, to pull the push rods, to pull the lifters, to swap the cam.

yes all the accys will bolt onto the 3.4 from the 3.1.

and as far as the TC, not my area.

no this is not correct, ideally u would have the car dynoed to see at what rpm it makes peak tq,u would then get a stall converter a few hundered rpms lower.

generally if u gonna have an na build go with something like 2,500,if ur gonna go for a forced induction build id recomend at least a 3,000.

i personally have a 4,000 stall converter its a lil much for the street, but it works great and once im upto cruising speed and the tq converter locks up its like driving with the stock one

does a tc lock up when it gets to its stall or will it lock up before it hits stall?
on another note: everyone for helping. i appreciate it tons.
