Dirty Fuel Filter?

Ok well my problem seems to be gradually getting worse. When to try to get going after a stop, i have to hit the gas harder than before for it to go. then sometimes with the same amount of pressure on the gas , the tach will increase from lets say 2 thousand rpms up to 25 hundred. Is this a sign of a dirty filter? if so is it hard to change? i know some filters you have to flare lines for.

Re: Dirty Fuel Filter?

Filters are very easy to replace, it takes like 5 min. No flares, just take off the bracket and loosen the two nuts on the fuel line.

Re: Dirty Fuel Filter?

not really, but it does sound like a clogged cat or other exhaust restriction. If you havn't changed the filter recently though, you might want to do it anyway.

Re: Dirty Fuel Filter?

not all the time. If it melts on itself, then it might not rattle around, just be a restriction. I've had to cut out plenty that have melted but not made noise.

Re: Dirty Fuel Filter?

Fuel filter would cause it to stall at idle. Word of warning, DON'T break the line from the filter to the tank, it's 88$ from GM. And it sucks to change.

Re: Dirty Fuel Filter?

I believe that the filter is on the driver side underneath the rear seat. To relieve the pressure just pull the fuse for the fuel pump and let the car run until it dies. Or you could be like be and just unhook the gas lines at the fuel filter and just let the gas drain.

Yes, the filter is in front of the driver side rear tire.

Even if you pull the fuse and let the pressure off, there will still be a large amount of fuel in the lines. Pulling the fuse and running the engine relieves excess pressure to prevent it from spraying when loosened. It won't completely burn everything off in the lines.

I just changed mine yesterday. Pulled the fuse..turnedthe car on and let it stall. Gas still came out and got all over my me but not alot. Easy to change though.
