Are the Valve Breathers Really Nessesary!?
Iam building a turbo system in my 3.1l and the breather port on the passenger side will sub as a perfect oil outlet port, however that will completely cut off the air supply into the valve cover, what will happen if there isn't a breather into a valve cover?

You won't have a fresh air source for the PCV system.
How would that be an oil outlet?

I removed the PVC valve and blocked off the port into the intake manifold. Instaed of the oil draining into the oil pan, Im building a port for it to train into the valve cover.

I don't know if that's going to work so well.

just get a breatherable (?) filler cap, as long as one side can breath and vent crankcase pressure.

Awesome, so just one side can have a vent then, and a I'll be ok. See any reason why my oil drain idea into the valve cover is a bad idea?

You'll have oil sitting pooled on top of the head while it waits to drain, and crankcase pressure will be blowing a mess of oil vapour out the breather.

how about if the breather was on the other valve cover that the oil is not draining into, solves that problem right?

the heads will not drain the oil fast enough, the feed to the turbo is a direct pressure feed that moves a good amount of oil, if you ever had an aftermarket live oil psi gauge in a car and the oil line going to it break you will know what im talking about, i seen an old dodge truck have this happen, alot of oil will come out of that tiny line, let alone a bigger line for a turbo..... you need to put it in the oil pan

Re: Are the Valve Breathers Really Nessesary!?
Honnestly, im not sure, to be on the safe side i would take the extra time or $$$$ to put it in the drain pan.......im sure you got atleast 30psi on your oil, to me that would make it splash everywhere under the v.c. may even start to cause problems, you dont need that much oil up there. if you ever adjusted valve/ rockers like i do (with the motor running and the v.c.'s off) you will know what im talking about, there is not much oil up there, nothing like what you would be intoducing into it with your turbo return..... you may want to remove a v.c. and start the motor, you will see what im talking about (it will sling some oil under the hood so be aware of that)
oh yea and on the berather subject, you want a breather on the other side of the motor that the PCV is not on, that way it circulates the air through the motor, if its in the same v.c. it will not circulate

I've seen turbo's drain back to the valvecovers without a problem. Not sure what they did for crankcase ventilation though.
