Re: Compression Test Results Unheard Of!

Just to clarify your doing the test with ALL spark plugs out, and the throttle held wide open while cranking?

all plugs out, blocked wide open throttle, and unpluged both ignition coil wire harness, also unpluged ECM/Fuel Pump Fuse, then cranked seven times.

I had bought a Fel-Pro head set, you think i could have mixed the gaskets up? but i doubt it i put #1 gasket number side up(it's not labeled which side up just has #1 and #2) on the passenger side or #1 cylinder side, did the opposite for gasket #2 which would be drivers side number side up.

Are you sure you have the valvetrain adjusted properly?

Re: Compression Test Results Unheard Of!

yeah i was p.o'd about that one, i did a test with all the rocker arms lose but half the crap on the car was off, got 120,90,80,and the rest around 70-75 which is better but not by much, i am losing some compression but i adjusted the valves as such, tightened until i felt zero lash between both rocker arm and lifter, then tightened a 1/2 turn(did this twice the first time i overtightened them so the car wouldnt even start, second time it starts now but my compression just plain blows) so im not sure, 120 isn't even all that high.

Re: Compression Test Results Unheard Of!

did you do a compression check before you removed everything? Was just wondering what the numbers were before you did all this.

Re: Compression Test Results Unheard Of!

I dont have the exact numbers, but they were significantly higher, but them gaskets whefff they were so horrible.

I have no idea what could cause such a great compression loss? unless the number side is suppose to be down on the gaskets that's the only thing that had me worried ( and it is usually number side up when there's no indication, and the instructions said they're interchangable if they do not state a side)

eh, any ideas?

Re: Compression Test Results Unheard Of!

Squirt some gear oil in the spark plug hole, if the compression is way higher than before, BAD RINGS, if not then possibly valves

Re: Compression Test Results Unheard Of!

Do a leakdown test, It'll tell you where your compression is going. Then you can focus on 1 area.
