Re: 3.1 Chip?

Better to spend your money on something else. I think that all they do is add a little bit of timing. Use that money for some headers and a catback,

Re: 3.1 Chip?

Hey 86 Camaro BoSs,

I got a stage 1 chip to try to cure a hesitation problem, it didn't do it. I haven't had it in for a few years, can't remember now if it really added any power. Think they add timing and fuel at higher RPMs

Manual trans PROMs and chips are hard to find. You must have a BAWX? The original in mine is an ARPL.

I wanted to ask you if you ever had a hesitation problem with your car (the 92 3.1)? A few other people on here have that issue, and it seems hard to cure.

I would agree with 2.8RS, best to save your money......

Thanks,

Bob

Re: 3.1 Chip?

maybe i'm looking in all the wrong places, but headers are $300+ everywhere i've looked.. if you know where i can get them cheaper please let me know, and the car already has a catback on it thanks to the previous owner..

and it's kind of funny about the hesitation problem being brought up.. my old '86 did it, and i bought my '92 just last june, car's run great since, and as of the past 2 weeks i've been having the hesitation problem with it.. i changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, and still have the problem, tho i found rust on the three passanger sparkplugs i assumed my engine might be needing a rebuild or somthing.. car did run a bit smoother tho after that change, it was still doing it..

right now my car has about 228xxx miles on it, i've been trying to decide wether to rebuild the motor and bore it out a bit... or just scrap it in favor of a V8..

Re: 3.1 Chip?

I think that everyone's car hesitates. Mine does especially when the motor is cold, it may just be the stock tune on these cars.

Pacesetter painted headers from summit racing, $262 +shipping so you may be looking at around $300 total.

Re: 3.1 Chip?

i was looking at other threads, what kind of cam's do they make for the 3.1? and also heads and intakes?

i'm thinking it'd be kinda cool to keep the 3.1, but make it a little more beefy..

Also,

would that be worth the money to do to my stock motor (during the rebulid) and does the computer dumb down any kind of performance parts i put on? (i really don't know much about car's with computers

Re: 3.1 Chip?

These engines tend to accept mods well enough from what I hear. If you throw in a cam your motor will still run good, any car won't get its max power out of mods without a tune. Nobody makes an intake for the fuel injected cars. All you can do is port them out. For a CAI go get a dual snorkel intake, gut it, and get some K&N filters.
