Ok so here it goes i just baught a 82 camaro v6 everything is stock but has duel exhaust. has 217000 miles on but runs like a champ 4 speed. my mechanic said if it has that many miles on it 99.99% chance that engine has been rebuilt. how can i find out what kind of v6 it is. i would also like to know what i can do to make it go fasterchips, headers, intake stuff like that what should i start with..i also notice the cap and roter had 7 spark plug wires maybe i counted wrong but i am preaty sure... thanks in advance.

Re: NEW GUY LOL...
if its a 82 its probably the 2.8 carbed version v6. i think 1990 was when they went too the 3.1EFI unless someone did a swap wich is unlikely. if the car is clean id save up for a v8 swap its alot more bang for the buck then youll ever get pouring money into the v6 but if your intent on keeping it the only real power numbers ive seen from them are people who boost them.

your cap does have seven wires.. one runs too the coil the rest go too the plugs so your ok.

if you look around you'll find a lot of stuff about intakes, although its all MPFI and not carb like you have. headers are available from pacesetter.
if you have any questions to how your engine works the best way to find out is by going to www.howstuffworks.com they have a good search engine.

An *almost* worthless engine. The only reasons to build that car are to be different or sentimental value.
Take the easy road and save for a v8 car.

Heh, no it's worthless. That's probably an early small main block and not worth considering putting any money into. Either get a v8 or swap in a later v6. Anything post-'85.

Re: NEW GUY LOL...
wow, 217000 miles! I'd say go for the carbed V8 swap actually. it'd be easy(er) to do. just keep it going for now and start looking for a cheap 350 and a manual transmission. to see whats involved in a 350 swap go into the engine swap forum and look at the top (stickys) for the V6 to V8 thread.

Re: NEW GUY LOL...
If you decide to stay v6, you should start with a 3.4 engine from a 4th gen. Re-use all your carb stuff to start. You just need an electric fuel pump.
Also swap to a 5 speed for better mpg and top end!
Good luck!
