knock in lower-end 3.1 v6 92 firebird
Just as the title says. I'm buying a 92 firebird with a 3.1L v6 and it has a knock in the lower-end of the engine. I have no clue what it could be. I go pick up the car tomorrow so any help will be great!

I'm 99.9% sure it will be a spun rod bearing. If it is, then you will be looking for a motor, or doing some major engine work. Either way, the motor has to come out of the car.

Not worth rebuilding, find a used 3.4 or 3.1, or even a 2.8 if you don't care about power, but for an engine this common rebuilding isn't cost effective unless its for more power and upgrades. I got a 3.4 for $200, complete with wiring harness, and even the torque converter, and all accessories. Or you could find a used crank or rods, but if you're lucky it might just be a bearing, and not whatever attaches to it.

I have a good 3.1 crank and rods, but the pistons that are on the rods aren't the greatest. If you want them, I'll sell them to your for $75 plus shipping.

Yes you can do that, but the new motor HAS to be a RWD block.. It can't come from a FWD car or van.

I would just get the whole motor, the lower intake, the plenum and everything. If you do and you are interested in selling one of the intake sets, from the lower intake up I would like to know. I need another one and no junkyards around here have a V6 thirdgen.
