This is going to take a bit more work then expected.

i finally got to a junk yard to pull a steering wheel and missing bolts so i can move the car into the garage and work on putting it back together. now as i start putting stuff together i realize. the people before me not only left this car to die under that tree but they also tried to kill it.

i see some holes for a part i am not sure of and some holes that seemed to have been filled in and a small hole drilled into it. my only course of action now is to take half the engine apart and try to rebuild it from there. also a few visits to the junk yard.

if people are willing to help me on this i'd appreciate any pictures you have of an engine on what it looks like in various stages of completion. thank you if you can do this for me.

it is a 87 firebird 2.8 automatic.

i'll post some pictures once i cool down.

Any and all pictures will help. I am going to need all the resources i can get. i just want to make sure there isn't any other surprises in store for me. the person i got the car has a history of doing weird stuff an i know he killed my old 78 Chevy Monza i sold to him 9 years ago (i was young and was getting out on my own and needed money bad). and i am not sure if he did much work to this car and if he sabotaged anything because it belonged to his ex (the one who sold it to me)

Thank you batsibf for the pictures.

if anyone else has some more pictures i'll be glad to see them. the more pictures and angles i get the better it will be for me to piece it together. also what is the thing the EGR bolts into called? if i can't get the EGR bolted into it i may need to hunt for a new one.

Thank you everyone that is helping me on this. i honestly appreciate it all. especually since i know i seem rather ignorant.

skip to 44 for engine pics, might help somewhat, but could be more thorough, eventually i might actually not be in a hurry to try to finish the damn car and be able to take my time and take a lot more pics at each step.

No problem, to save you some money if you don't have emissions then just blank it off and don't worrie about it.

also if i were to cover the openings to the EGR from the Exhaust manifold (??) and plenum. what would be the best way and will it cause any adverse effects to the car or performance? i live in FL and have no emission testing.

mine ran better with out the EGR valve, I might be wrong but I don't think there is any thing that would be hurt by running with out it.

as far as blocking it off, us some scrap metal that will cover the hole and you can make two holes for the bolts, and something to make a seal.

Wow. Normally I'm not a fan of engine cleaner spray- but I think it's time to clean that engine (and of course, anything else that might be living on it)!! Cover up your alternator with tin foil first though, you don't water (and eventually corrosion) to get into the voltage regulator. I wonder how many are in the exhaust pipes...

For the chip in the manifold you'll have to see after you get the car started if any exhaust comes through.

I don't think the EGR's bolt holes (on manifold) are filled in, as much as they might've had the bolts snap off flush with the manifold- then someone tried unsuccessfully to drill them out (and why they drilled them off-center is a mystery to me).
