Turbocharged V6
Turbocharged V6
I was wondering...Since there was the 20th anniv. Trans Am with a Buick V6 turbocharged then why cant we Turbo our 2.8s or 3.1s? We could couldnt we? Would it be worth it?

I wouldn't think so. I'd be more tempted to go for a V8 swap myself with the thought that if I wanted more power in the future I could massage that a little. A turbocharged V6 could be interesting though. Let me know if you decide to go through with it.

It /is/ possible, in fact I remember a URL being posted before this site went down, were someone had put twin turbos on a 2.8 (but its was not in an F-body) it was very cool but /very/ high dollar stuff. Problems you would run into would be things like.. Having to match the turbo to the engine (too big and it will never spool up fully, turbo too small and it will spool up but it won't make any boost) You could get ahold of the company that does the turbo Fieros and see what the use.. but then you still have to have they headers and intake fabed, then have the ECU either redone or replaced. Then you deal with the fact there is little to no off the shelf forged engine parts for our motors.. wich presents deribilty issues and limits the boost you can run safely... All in all, in less you have money to burn, and you still want to forcefeed your motor.. a supergarger running about 6lbs of boost would be an easier install, less fab work, safe, and more than likely cheaper.. but once again thats my two cents (well more like 1.50

As '87 LT said, it can be done, but its gonna be big $$. I'd be more inclined to do a V8 swap as well...I'm currently setting money aside to buy a TPI setup and harness, then I can throw this on a crate 350 when the 2.8 goes (which with the way the 2.8 is running, won't happen for a LONG time...

There's going to be so much fabrication work needed, it may not be worth it. Talk to Graeme's about the s/c on his old car...apparently that can be done for around 3 grand, right Graemes??

Oh BTW, the 3.8 turbo setup won't come close to fitting a 2.8 without a lotta work, because the 3.8 is a 90 degree motor, and is very different from the 2.8/3.1/3.4s

And don't forget, that car didn't have much room for anything at all... I'd never bring a turbo -near- my car. I could buy a few v8 motors for that price!
