Stolen!

Godammit! My car was stolen last night. I just got home from driving my gf home from college (about 10:45) and was getting into bed (11:15) when I hear my car start up and drive up the street. Those ****ing ****ers! I'm so pissed off, since I've put so much work and money into it.

Glenn, got any tips on dealing with ICBC? I'm in Coquitlam.

If the cops don't find it within a couple of days, I'd guess that it was stolen to be stripped down. I'm not going to get much money from the insurance company I don't think, since it was a V6 and all.

The one I'm looking at now is this:
http://www.buysell.com/showad.asp?id=7820508

*edit* Whoops, forgot to mention that I'm up in Canada, so that 9k is more like 6k US.

But I'll probably have to talk to my grandparents about a loan Going back to school in January, so money is going to be tight.

Wow, sorry to hear about that, Alex. I hope they find it in decent condition! It must be something with Canada, I know a girl up there whose '84 Firebird was stolen once, and she recovered it- only to have someone else attempt to steal it again!

I'm surprised how many 3rd gens are still being stolen. When my mom bought mine new, she wouldn't take it to a mall or down to Boston because she was afraid it'd get stolen. At that time, 5 of the 10 most stolen cars were various year '80s Camaros. I think of all the IROCs and T/As that might still be around if they hadn't been stolen and stripped!

Maybe its dumb luck (or maybe its because that little LED DOES do something), but in the 2.5 years I've had my car, nothing has ever happened to it, and I park it everywhere. Especially here at school I thought there'd be a problem, but there's only been 1 time it was set off (I got 3 chirps when I disarmed it), and there was no damage done. Hell, a cat jumping on it could have set it off.

Just an update, the RCMP just called and they found the car. Some damage to the door lock and the ignition. I'll have to wait until Thursday to get it back. I guess I'll have to look at getting an alarm now.

Woohoo! Although I was kind of looking forward to getting the insurance money and buying a GTA

You should be lucky that you're getting it back in one piece. A guy on the NE3G board had his GN stolen and demolished. I think you got off lucky friend

Well, atleast you got it back. They probably just went for a joyride at your expense. I used a Bulldog alarm on my old RS...Works great plus you can hook stuff up to it for keless features and remote startup...I'm really glad you got your car back in more or less one piece.

Had an '89 RS...sold it. *sniff,sniff*

I'm currently looking for an RS or if I can find one,IROC.

THE THEFT OF A CAR SUCKS ANY WAY YOU CUT IT. IM GLAD TO HEAR YOU GETTING IT BACK. AN ALARM SYSTEM IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR A CAR SUCH AS OURS, EASY TO BREAK INTO AND EASY TO STEAL. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND HAVE IT PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED BY THE BEST SHOP YOU KIND FIND. THE THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR IS A GREAT INSTALL. SOLDER AND HEAT SHRINK (HARD TO FIND AND USUALLY MORE EXPENSIVE) ALL COMPONENTS MOUNTED DOWN, BOSCH RELAYS, 12VOLT CONNECTION AT THE BATTERY ONLY (NOT AT THE FUSE PANEL OR COLUMN), AND LAST IS A GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT, IE. CLIFFORD, VIPER, ALPINE. GOOD LUCK

I second everything KNTRDR said. I have an Alpine with keyless entry. I've had it for 2 years and it's the best investment I ever made for the car. I feel a lot safer parking it somewhere (especially with a $1,300 stereo), and the keyless entry and trunk is a huge benefit.

Make sure that there is a starter kill relay added...not everyone does this. Also, as KNTRDR said, make sure its a quality install. I have wire loom covering all the wires, way the hell up in the dash. Between the alarm, kill relay and where the wires are placed, no one is getting my car unless they tow it away

Expect to pay about $350 for a quality alarm, installed. DO NOT attempt to do this yourself unless you really know what you're doing!

You know,I only wish there was some way to make the skin of your car act liek a tazer...so basically anyone brushing up againsy it touching it,or KEYING it,or any of that **** would get a nice 50k volt jolt...Its Science Fiction, but we can dream.

RS'er, my uncle (89 yrs old) used to own a Ford Model A along with some of his buddies. He said they used to wire the coil to the body of the car. Then they'd roll their car up so it's bumper (steel) would touch the bumper of one of their friend's cars.

So when their friend got into his/her car, zap!

Sounds damn dangerous though with a HEI coil. Either coils weren't that powerful back then, or my uncle was a nut!

Oh, and I agree with the alarm deal; I put my Viper in 6 months after I got the car. (And yes, I have the voice box - swindled it for free, heh heh, man, I miss that store. I wonder why they went out of business?)

if it makes ya feel any better heres what some of my so called friends did to my ride at a summer party last year, they took everything except my subs.. im still to this day paying for the stereo system that i no longer have..
http://www.PulseNET.com/~gomer/imgs/theft.jpg

not only did they take anything of value and recklessly, but they felt the need to run it off the road, down a hill and into a tree
and yes, i cried when i gave the cop the report...

Wow scoob...that looks horrible! Is that the car you still have? Must have been a lotta work to get it all back together right.

Pictures like that make me appreciate the alarm (not to mention the car) all that much more. I can't imagine what would happen if someone stole my car...if they did, I hope it would never be found...I'd probably cry too if I saw my car afterwards, all smashed up.

Probably the best advice about dealing with ICBC is that if you value/love your car DONT let them write it off.If you want the car they cant say no.

Last halloween someone tried ripping off my car but luckily the alarm went off and I managed to scare them away (I can be a little intimidating at 6'5" & 270lbs lol)

As for 3rd gens being stolen alot in BC, ICBC ranks the 82-88 fbody as the 5th or 6th most stollen car in the lower mainland. I guess the Pass Key in later models does work!

ps does anyone know how to change a user name?

yeah, some so called friends.. i had a hunch it was them all along tho no one would admit to it.. still no one will, i know who it was but really cant do anything cos i cant prove who did it.. cops fingerprinted it too, didnt find any useable prints.. so i just put everyone involved on my 7 year plan, anywhere from then up to 7 years from now, i will get my revenge one way or another.. the sick thing is, i had an alarm.. but we were at my buddies house, out in the middle of nowhere, gonna party, i got there real late, so i didnt put my alarm on so i didnt wake anyone up by arming it.. figured itd be safe out in the middle of nowhere at my friends house.. anyway, yeah thats the v6 maro i still drive.. drove it with the smashed front end for awhile then just about 2 months ago some old man makes me rearend him.. now i got a hood and fascia off an 84 on it.. looks different, but good enough for me for my second fbod..

Yeah, a buddy of mine's GTA has been stolen twice, also. Once before he bought it, and once since then. The f*kers threw all his crap out the window after they hit the road with it. When I bought his cd changer, I had to wait for 2 friggin months to get a new one from Pioneer....

back up to that tazer idea....one of my friends at college loved his explorer so much (don't know why, it's a ford number 1 and a piece of shiznit too {as if the FORD didn't include that} ) that he actually DID rig a way to include under his door handles kind of a tazer/stun gun setup.....Needless to say, nobody touches his explorer anymore till they hear the beeps of the alarm goin off........
