3.1 to 3400 worth swapping?
Ok so heres the deal. A buddy of mine has a 3400, tranny, and computer that he wants to sell to me for 200 bucks. I was wondering would it be worth the 200 or save up and get a larger engine?

If you just need to drop in an engine to keep the car running then you might consider it but $200 might be all that it's worth.

Moving this to the V6 forum. Figure you'll get a more usable answer than you would on the Engine Swap forum.
First question, what is the 3400 out of?

$200 is not bad, especially if it runs and is in good shape.
Most people will build hybrids using the top end off a 3400 and pistons from a 3400, installed in a 3.4 block (from the '93 to '95 F-body).
There are some significant differences between the FWD and RWD 660. As far as mounting is concerned, this would be the starter is on the opposite side. and the mount pads are quite different.
The front cover and belt driven accessories are different and requires some plugging of holes and such to use the RWD cover on the FWD block.
There are a few threads around on swapping the complete engine and building hybrids.

Re: 3.1 to 3400 worth swapping?
My 3.1 runs pretty well for 200,000 miles. I just want some thing with a little more pep. The 3400 will come out of a 95 Camaro with half the miles my current engine has. Also, the 3400 engine has been rebuilt a few years ago but was parked some time afterwards do to a careless teen taking target practice at the car.

If it's coming out of a stock Camaro, it's a 3.4, not a 3400.
3.4 is RWD and is pretty much a bolt into the 3rd gen, in place of the 2.8 or 3.1.
3400 is FWD and not a bolt in.
