whenever i come on to the gas the car responds very well and then it dies for a second then continues to pick up speed. I don't have a tach so I can't tell you when it does it but it is under 10 mph. any suggestions

Could it be that you're in 2nd and it shifts down to first to accel?

BTW could it be as simple as a gas filter, pump or may be a dirty carb. ???

does it want to die at idle? If so it might be your O2 sensor..that is what mine did

When was the last time the carb was cleaned out?

Any other details?
Any other noises to accompany the dying out?

Yes, it could be simple.. possibly fuel filter, easily the pump, and easily in need of carb cleaning. I seriously doubt the O2 sensor would have anything to do with it since to my knowledge 82-84 2.8's weren't equipped with them =P

In search of new v8 engine & transmission, now contemplating t5 swap to get me out of this mess.
MSD coil, Accel 8mm wires, SplitFire plugs, Gabriel hijackers, possible performance chip I don't know about.. gotta crack open the ECM and check sometime

It's the accelerator pump. No big deal really. If your hurting for $ right now you can just change the diaphram. You should rebuild the carb if things are starting to go wrong. The rebuild kit should be around $20. The kit will ahve everything you need and most have instructions as well. If you can, put towels down and do it on the kitchen/dining room table.

I took it in to get looked at basic carb cleaning but the problem is a miss in one possibly two cylinders (I didn't really notice it myself because of a small gap in the manifold and lack of automotive knowledge )which means I have a place to start from ie plug, wires, cap. But thanks for the sugestions it is great to know that if i do have a problem there is a place i can go to for help
