Inssurance and gas differences..

Hello all...

I recently have been looking around for a car and all i am seeing is the 305 TBI's (i want a 6 5 spd). I was just curious if you guys know what the difference in insurrance and gas would be since we all know the prices are retarded.. its 1.85 regular here! (last time i checked) so thats my question..i know the speed isnt a difference..but is the insurrance and gas? Im a 16 white male white lowsy grades if that helps u say ill be f###ed. im also getting $7 an hour (starting may 13th, get 5.25 for now)

pe@ce
and thanks

ok i went to progressive and they told me this..

3 people, one being 16 male, 2 cars, both used for parents to go to and from work (dad drives demos so i get his "car") one car being a 1992 camaro RS (6) and one being our blazer it would be 2,042 every 6 months

then i did the same thing with a RS 5.0 (tbi) and it was 2,141 bucks! not bad at all..then i did it with 5.0 H.O and 5.7 and it ended at 2,184 being highest.

since prices arent bad (i might have a shot at a 5.0 TBI) are the gas prices gonna be a lot different on a V8 than a 6er? thanks

I have the least coverage i can have exept i do have collision. I've gotten 2 tickets. 1 for doing 55 in a 30($250) happened 3 yrs ago in my '88 chevy nova
1 for doing 42 in a 25($143) happened yesterday.
I'm paying about $220 a month.

My brother wrecked 3 cars and he pays like $350-$400 a month for the same coverage.
He crashed a Nissan Sentra, Chevy Celebrity Wagon, and a tree fell on his Toyota Echo.
All sh!tty cars, I know. Now he drives a CIVIC! I hate those f*ckin sh!tters. Anyway, I'm gonna go do some work since that's what I'm gettin payed for and all.

Progressive insurance is usually classified as a "high risk" company. In other words they take clients that have been dropped by other companies due to a bad record like accidents or SR-22s. They have to have their prices a bit higher to cover the other bad drivers.
Your best bet is to find a local insurance agent and have him/her run a comparison between all the companies that the carry. You might be pleasantly surpised.

My dad is an agent for a local company and I get to hear all about insurance companies at home.yea

YMMV

Since the V8 is only $100 more why not buy mine?

Honestly, the gas mileage difference is only marginally better, and the resale will be tons better. I did the same math and that is how I came to own my '92 RS with the 305. They are cheap to buy, cheap to mod and have pretty decent performance for the price bracket.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not knocking 6cyls. I own one. But if everyone is being honest, almost everyone will tell you to go with the V8 if the prices are almost identical. Of course, the 6 cyl F-bod's are quickly becoming a rarity.

Just a thought,

Chris.

All you guys with high insurance will HATE me....

I'm 21, no tickets, no accidents in 4.5 years of driving. When I had full coverage on the RS, it was $977/yr. Now that I dropped it to limited collision (but kept all other coverages the same), its $414/yr

Here's the kicker...a '97 Z28 with full coverage is only $1,250/yr for me!!! Its amazing how cheap you can insure a car when it has an airbag and anti-theft discount.

So for 2 Camaros, year round, I pay a little under $1,700...not bad. BTW, go with the V8...you'll be happy you did. The 2.8 gas mileage ain't a helluva lot better. My LT1 and 2.8 get the SAME mileage.

I;m not knocking the 6's either, but the insurance isnt much higher for the V8 when you get only liability. My point is if you can afford the V8 GET IT!

5.0 TBI are dogs so this is no argument

Ummm... my 305 is almost 6 sec faster in the 1/4 than my 6. With very little modification, the 305 can be a healthy street performer.

Maybe it just ruffles my feathers when someone says that the 305 is a dog.
Fact: You will be very pleased with the 305 (if you get a good running one) after driving the 6 cyl. Not to dog the 6 but we are talking a ton of torque over the 2.8/3.1.

I have the 305 with 128,000 miles on the odometer. She has headers, no emmisions, flowmaster 2.5 inch and high flow cat, chip and subframe connectors. We test it in the 1/4 with the G-tech and I got 15.1. I think I can do better with some traction. I also get 30 mpg on the interstate and 18-22 in town, so it's reasonable to say that although the 305 isn't the fastest car on the road, it will hold it's own.

For your dad, the resale difference will be greater with the V8 vs. the V6. Plus, there are more mods available for the V8, so there is some quality Father/Son time there.

he knows the difference in resale, hes the damn manager of WinKelly Chevrolets used car lot i mean can someone just give like a little paragraph of hands on experience with both and explain that the difference is only minimal, except for the resale value (which he knows, and was stated above, thx for that) and the ease of mods, which again was stated above, but also add the power difference since from what ive heard is only minimal

thx! pe@ce

Okay,

The difference between the V6 and the 305 (stock) is only about 25-30 HP and that translates to a little over .5 sec faster in the 1/4 mile. The V8 consumes marginally more gas (4-6) and on the interstate, there is no difference. They are both rear-drive, mid-range power vehicles. It would only make sense to purchase the V8 if it could be had for the same price, or even a little more.

That good?

Want credentials?
I've owned an 88 2.8 RS and an 84' firebird with the 2.8 (carbed) I also own a '92 RS with slight mods.

I wish my local agents were cheaper but I got cheaper insurance with progressive than with state farm, they were gouging me for like $20 a month more than progressive for just liability. Oh yeah, I am 19,male, no tickets or accidents. I pay like 487 something every 6 months for just liability.
