Starting my engine build.
I got a free 3.4 shortblock and 4l60 from my tech school, lock said to only have about 10 to 20 miles on them. The car was donated new then stripped to pieces. I plan for a 3.4/3400 hybrid motor. Im gonna keep the 3.4 pistons so its gonna be high compression.
The stuff I plan to use:
ARP main studs : http://wot-tech.com/shop/gm-60v6/mai...t/prod_91.html
ARP Rod bolts : http://wot-tech.com/shop/gm-60v6/arp...s/prod_31.html
ARP head studs : http://wot-tech.com/shop/gm-60v6/arp...t/prod_69.html
Chevite main bearing: http://wot-tech.com/shop/gm-60v6/tri.../prod_267.html
Chevite rod bearings : http://wot-tech.com/shop/gm-60v6/tri.../prod_266.html
272H cam
Now The stuff I need help with, What thickness head gasket should I use?
http://wot-tech.com/shop/gm-60v6/340.../prod_247.html
And also what size pushrods will I need?

Don't waste your money on the ARP stuff... It's REALLY not needed.
I have a set of .039 compressed gaskets I can part with. This will work with the RWD pistons, since they stay in the block at TDC.
You're going to have to measure for the pushrod length once you get to that point. Changes in cam, head gasket thickness and rocker style all have an effect on the pushrod length. Most of the time custom length pushrods are needed.

Really don't think the ARP stuff is needed? I was thinking at least the Rod bolts would be for spinning high revs.

When's the last time you've heard of a rod bolt letting go in these engines?

Fair enough, But I still need to find rod bolts. Someone took the motor apart before I got it and lost half of them. Same with main bolts, I only have 4.

In that case, order up the ARP bolts, since you need to buy them anyway. They would likely end up being cheaper than the OEM bolts. lol

Re: Starting my engine build.
line bore the block, and have the rods resized, rods have to be resized with the rodbolts anyways. but as far as the main caps u have no idea if somone mixed them up and they are not in the right places.and mains should really be align bored once u change the bolts or goto studs anyways
