3.1L V6 nitrous

has anyone put a nitrous kit on a 3.1l v6 in their camaro, i am wondering how many psi i can run. safely on the street and how much i can push it to get max out on the track. if anyone has pics on how to hook it up and where they placed the bottle in the car, all would be great help.

I am curious about this also, and I would probably place the bottle in the rear compartment on the drivers side

why not keep the spare tire where it is and put the bottle in the compartment on the other side?

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

I am planning on putting nirtous on my 3.1L also as soon as $$ is avalible for it....I race alot at the 1/4 mile and thats what I will use it for but i have one concern that mabey someone can clear up.....If the nitrous is activated at WOT then when i launch my car it will be activated but my Rpms are only arround 2K when i launch....I know 2K Rpms is not good to use nitrous....any ideas...a manual activation switch mabey???? Oh yea i race my car and run 16.90's constantly...Is a shot of 100 hp of nitrous a pipe dream at getting at mid 15's??? Anyways any tips on the WOT switch would be awsome....

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

Oh yea also if your mounting the nitrous you may want to concider a Nitrous Blow Down Tube.....Its a safty device for the nitrous in case the pressure builds up so much from being in the hatch that it can blow by the seals where the nitrous line comes out of the bottle.......the Blow Down Tube diverts the nitrous from being sprayed in the car...If its sprayed you might not be able to see where your going.....lol...

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

ok guys u want nitrous here ya go

first up do not use a dry nitrous system above 35 hp 50hp dry can be used but is really pushing it

stick with a single nozzle wet system
35/50/75 hp systems are fine for alot of use and by this i mean everyday use
for a 50/75 shot i would install one range colder spark plugs and retard the ignition timming 1 degree

these engine will hold upto 100/150/200 hp shots for track use
these shots will reguire colder plugs with a tightened up plug gap .025-.030 with stock ignition systems
and also additional timming retard

any nitrous bottle installed into a thirdgen must have a saftey blowdown tube vented to outside the car to be track legal

and u would be a serious idiot not to install one anyways ive seen first hand what happens when the safety disk ruptures on a nitrous tank without a saftey blowdown tube. its 30 bucks that can save ur car/the windows in ur car

100shot should put u into the 14's wot switch is a good idea as it prevents activation at anything other then wot.

i prefer to use a wot switch wired to an rpm window switch.

use the wot switch to activate the rpm window switch use the window switch to start the nitrous at about 2500 rpms and shut it off right before the shiftpoint, this will help the trans live longer

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

great information, i also am wondering what are the needed parts to hook this up, just a general parts list would help, and i would like to know where is the best place to inject the shot on the motor, should i drill holes in the intake and have it injected that way? i am just starting out with this nitrous, so hang in there with me if i sound kinda dumb. thanks for all the info so far though!!!

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

Just look at buying a universal single port wet kit for fuel injection... There are alot of them and they are the best way to hook up the nitrous easily.. Also you are going to want to drill a hole 6 inches or so from the throttle body..But when i plan on adding nitrous i am going to make a better air tube from the throttle body to the air filter box.. I have the dual snorkle type on my 3.1L....From what i have heard you dont want too many places for the nitrous to get traped..such as the tubing off the stock 3.1L throttle body to the air box....you know how it has a ribbed design to it??? Im thinking you want a smooth one such as a fabricated piece out of pvc.. Here is a kit that i was looking at...although if i can afford the bigger kit for 75/100/125 Hp then thats the one i want to get..i have a low mile car and this is for track only for me...but this is the smaller kit its up to 75Hp

It also has the PDF instructions you can look at...

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

all very helpful but i already have a nos tank and i am starting from scratch, so another question, can i drill holes in my intake and put a nozzles on both sides of the top of the intake or should i just use one, i want it to be evenly distributed to the motor. i planned on putting about 2 on each side of the intake, so 4 nozzles total, ok, another question what nozzles do i use that screw into the intake for a wet shot setup? and what kind of line, steel or braided?

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

ok... well i wouldnt drill holes in my intake...what i would do is drill one hole into the tube from the air box..about 6 inches from the throttle body, the simpler the better and your gonna get the Hp better this way then a confusing way which i've never seen in a 3.1L....the other question you asked is there called silenoids... they open and close when the relay tells it to...the whole system for nitrous consists of. the bottle, bottle braket, the valve for the bottle, the main nitrous feed line, then the silenoids, one for the fuel and one for the nitrous in a wet application, then there is the fuel line that comes from your fuel rail to the fuel silenoid, the short lines that come from each silenoid to the nozzle...one is fuel and one nitrous, thats the basic plumbing. Electrically you have to have a relay with a inline fuse for saftey, a arming switch, and a micro switch, althought the silenoids are also powered so there both the plumbing and electrical i guess. That is the basic set up for a wet nitrous system. Remember that a wet system adds extra fuel with the nitrous unopposed to a dry one which only adds nitrous, no extra fuel...
Wet is the way to go.....look at the nozzles on summitracing.com they have good ones to choose from...hope this helps a little.

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

so was that a wet shot that you installed on the 3.1. and another question, how do you control the amount of shot that you want to use in the motor? i think i will use a dry shot on my motor, unless i can't being fuel injected and all.

Re: 3.1L V6 nitrous

a dry shot is going to have the possibility of causeing alot of harm to your car compared to a wet one... a single fogger nozzle wet system works great for a fuel injected motor like the 3.1L. The wet system is only better because it adds fuel with the nitrous so that the motor (hopefully) dosent run to lean, which is what nitrous devistation can be done... stick to the wet system...the way you adjust the Hp increses in nitrous is by the jets that are placed in the nozzle.. there are many jets that are out there but it matters if the silenoids you have or get can support the jets...one just for nitrous and one for the fuel... really the best way to eliminate all the confusion is to just buy a wet kit....you said you have the bottle???? well there are kits out there that have everything you need except the bottle....then once you get your kit and size the jets right you have to figure out the safty stuff...AKA the blow down tube, and mabey purchase a rpm window which you can control by setting the nitrous to start and stop at a certain rpm...there will be a jet sizing chart in the kit if you buy one....i personely wouldnt use a shot of nitrous bigger than 75 for a daily use.... 150 tops if your useing it at a 1/4 track only and have your motor tweaked for the shot(retard timing more and cold plugs and rpm window).... and make sure your motor is in tuned up shape for any shot of nitrous.... message me if you have any more questions.... i sure dont know it all but i know a little and i can get you started on the basic questions you may have,,
