tempeture change

OK guys, here is another one for the board.. My normal operating temp(no air) is about 210-200. But lately, i've been running my air and it's running 240-250.. I have water wetter in the coolant, and actually the radiator is about a year old, so there isn't a blockage. Once the weather quits i'm going to flush out the radiator and coolant..

My questions is, Do any of you guys have this, or am i over reacting to the temp change when I run my air..

Sounds to drastic of a CHANGE...My car never reaches that temp with the air on... Is your fan running correctly? What color is your fliud? Your pump spinning correctly? How old and what temp is your thermo?

That temp is WAY TO HOT!!!
You have bad air flow somehow.
Missing spoilers or air dams?

Are you loosing water? or AntiFreeze?
Loose belts?
Worn water pump?
Poor quality hoses?
You "system" is being taxed using the AC, sure, but, your engine is cooking the oil, I'll bet.
You are running way hot.
Way hot.
Even when my S-10 Blazer ran the AC & hot days (like you in LA), I NEVER got that hot.

How about the fan clutch? Is that still good?
Sorry forgot you're electric fan

My '91 RS was running at about 200-220 in heavy traffic too. I had to install a manual fan switch. I never use the AC (T-tops baby ).

Syxx if you can't look at it you may want to take it in.. That could be part of your noticeable power loss you have talked about in the past.. It could also be part of that poor running conditions you have been getting...

Here's something nobody mentioned- is the factory gauge telling you the 240-250 degrees? I hear the factory gauges can be inaccurate; you might really be running at normal temps.

You could also lean the radiator back (remove the upper rad support plate) and check for leaves & bags & crap between the radiator and air conditioning condensor. (The condensor looks like a radiator, but it's thinner, and sandwiched against your normal radiator.)

My radiator is fine, actually it's less than a year old. The gauge isn't stock it's a digital dash so that gauge is telling me i'm running 240-250..

I think with all of the littel things screwy about my engine, i think it may be time for a rebuild..

A rebuild should have nothing to do with engine temp.. A water pump would.. You mentioned before you thought yours might be going... Now minght be the time..

NOT TRUE.
A worn down engine can EASILY run hot.
WHY,
It's inefficent & takes more effort to do, what it once did, easily.
Uses MORE GAS for the exact same reason.

Right now it looks like the water pump and maybe even the timing belt will be changed ... Hopefully that will help.
