Could this possibly be hurting performance?

I gave up on my car and took it to our friend whos a mechanic, he said ill have it in a day or two. When talking to him, he asked about the 5 speed swap, and something occured to me. I never changed proms, i still have the one from the 4 speed auto in the ecm. Any ideas as to if this could hurt performance? What about any engine functions?

I honestly don't know what the difference is....can't help you there. BUT, if you need to buy one, let me know. It's hard to find an 88-92 V6 5 speed in the boneyards and I dunno if you can get a prom at pep boys, etc.

Anyway, i looked up the part at work today and the list price is $77.56(BS, I know) but i can get it for $38.78 + 10% = about $44. Let me know if you need one.

EDIT:Although, i'd scour the boneyards before paying $44 for a POS little chip.

I think the only difference would be that the automatic's chip would be trying to activate the TCC solenoid... which might throw the code if the 4-pin connector's unhooked. But I don't know... maybe you can ask Glenn about that one. If there's no major difference in settings between a V8's chip (5 spd vs automatic), I don't think there'd be one for the V6.

I did not notice any SOTP performance differences between the auto and 5sp chips. The auto chip doesn't throw any codes for the TCC, its a one-way communication only (the computer sends the signal but doesn't receive any back).

The only differences I noticed were in the idle control and power brake assist. I think I read that EGR functions are changed but I can't remember where I found that. My brakes had much better feel with the auto chip than with the manual tho. I may switch the chip back to an auto for that reason.

If there are any programming differences, I have no idea, that is over my head (for now anyway ). I have tried to do a little research on the topic but have not found much information. It seems that so few people have worked with the V6 chips that there is not much available on it

So come and do it plow-boy.

Your gonna make physical threats on a public forum? Its OK...cause for one I'm not scared, tuff guy. And for two, if anything negative happens to me or my family I have documentation that you've made personal threats.

Oh, and I'm sure my 6'3" 275lbs. isn't much compared to your physique. Quit hiding behind the keyboard. Pip squeak.

iroc what the hell is your problem
you are going about trying to inflate your ego by doing what??? picking on those who have smaller motors then you
let me guess you were also the kid back in school who would pick on the guy who was 5'2" and maybe 85lbs just to show how tough you are.
you are one hella big man for that.damn I wish I could pick on those small guys. I guess maybe this is your way of making up for those times a real man messes with you.

you have a fricking 5.7 big deal? does that mean I should pick your post apart cause I drive a 347 SBC? or a little 1.3Lt that could prolly still kick your cars *** .
I mean look I think V8's are cool but when you go around and try to say other ppls cars suck just b.c YOU have a V8 and THink you are a big man now.
a little comp is cool but when you make a big baby out of yourself then you ruin it for others and you give camaro owners a bad name.

and if this is what it's like to drive a fu.cking V8 that I would rather go about driving my rx7 all the time. desearve more respect when I kick your cars *** .
I mean you have a thing to learn from these fellow V6 owners. they are cool and willing to lend a hand to people rather then shrugging them off cause they are different or not up to par with you.

get V6 or respect us or get outa here
