Relocating Battery

In my search for the build sheet, I discovered that the spare tire is gone, and a big hole is at the bottom the car. I plan to repair this with a fiberglass repair kit and structural bracing.
Q: I know that the reg batteries are probably too big to fit, but the 51-D series batteries are relativley small, at least not as wide, and have 500cca, will it be enough?

Will I need a box to put it in, or just secure with a generic hold down?

from stocking at PAW..they sell a relocating battery kit for 70 bucks, 12 ft of power, 3 ft ground, box, mounting strap etc. Its the way to go.. it think personally its a lot easier then fiberglassing everything.. and, this way if u had to you could convert the battery back to the engine bay... my .02

Nifty, so once the battery is gone, technically, I could make one of the camaro dual snorkel inlets work. Right?

Beware guys, I relocated the battery to the trunk a few days ago. That coupled with the weight of my stereo equip. actually made the car sit lower in the rear. I'll probably be moving it back up under the hood just so it doesn't look funny.

I can only budget for good 6x9s & a modest amp, so I'm not too concerned about that.....for now

Everyone says this, but I guess I don't understand exactly what they mean. Do you have to have some kind of "roof" on the battery box, with a vent tube that goes outside the car? Do the fumes rise or fall?

I bought a '77 Vega that had quite a few mods done to it. One of which was the battery being relocated to the hatch area, in a plastic "marine" type battery box. No special provisions for venting, whatever vapors are released go right into the pass. compartment. What are the risks of this? Nothing's happened yet.. Am I just lucky?

Kinda like steam evaporating, I think.
Want the cable cheaper?
Go to a welding store. They sell same cable. Size "0". Dirt Cheap. Get a Marine Battery box. Go buy ends, solder the stuff together.
Go to it.
Triple ground the project.
From battery to frame.
From starter to frame.
From engine to frame.
I'm doing this to my 1967 Camaro convertible
