Should the coolant temp idiot light come on when the key is in 'on' position?

Everything else comes on, oil, batt, and check engine, just not the coolant temp light... is it supposed to do that?

It comes on when it's put into the 'start' position however.... it just seemed odd to me that everything but that would come on...

Yeah....they are all suppose to turn "on" when the key is in the on position...but when you start your vehicle they should all turn off.

Oh damn... Lemme rephrase:

What about cranking, what should the lights do while the engine is cranking? Right now, when the key is in the 'on' (but not running) position, everything but the CT light is on, but when I crank, it comes on along with the rest. Once the key returns to the 'on' position (with engine running), they all go off. Is something up here?

From what you're telling me I assume I need a new CTS... do I need to drain the coolant first? This may be the perfect time to do the TB bypass mod -and- flush my coolant system for the year (I'm sure it's never been done).

Is there some sort of relay I should check for the CTS first?

Graeme, I don't know, I don't think every year/model is the same... my e-brake light doesn't come on in the 'on' (off) position, I don't know about cranking, I'll pay attention tomorrow morning.

Yes..typically all dummy lights are suppose 2 come on when the key is in the on position....however i've seen alot of camaro's with dummy lights that don't come on....must be a common problem.

One light that you have 2 make sure that comes on when your key on the on position is the check engine light.

When you get your car smog tested...the technician will turn the key on, if the check engine light doesn't come on, you will pass smog.

He does this 2 make sure that you haven't disconnected the bult of took it out.

Your check engine light should come on when the key is on. But when you start your vehicle it should turn off!!!

Onetirefire, yep, it comes on, and then goes off once it's running...

PS, graeme, just read about the 'bird... it's sad to see it go, especially you, I've valued your opinions and suggestions over the course of my stay. Are you still going to hang here? Do you still have another thirdgen? Good luck in the future, and with the Nova.
