cigarette lighter

I know this isn't the right board for this but the V6ers know more then those loud mouth V8ers. My cigarette lighter pops the fuse, do auto part stores stock a replacement for the 1990-1992 Camaros.

You should be able to find one at an auto parts store. If not go to your local scrap yard you'll be bond to find one there along with other misc. interier parts.

AZ has them for about 5 bucks, the apps are on the back of the package. Also check for a short before getting a replacement.

What size fuse does it use? I wonder, if the fuse that was in there is larger than it should be, if the previous owner wired something up wrong- like, foglights to the cig lighter...

Try a cig lighter from a friend's car. It should fit.

My car does this all the time. I just have a radar detector in the cig lighter and when i try to plug in my cell phone or put in a dual outlet adaptor, the fuse blows. I wish I could fix this. Sometimes you need to charge your phone because you're talking to someone important, and the you get the low battery beep....that's the worst. Then I can't even charge my phone!! Dumb thing...

It's only a 20 Amp and thats what the manual says it should be, mine is weird, I bumped it one day and it poped the fuse, 30 Amp is to much, I wouldn't do that, that could cause a fire. If the cigarette lighter is out it's fine, never blows, never have any problems. I'm a non-smoker so I don't care if it's there or not just want it there for looks.

Yeah, I'd just leave the 20 amp in there, too. Hey you guys ever -see- the cig lighter wire? It's really thin- and it amazes me that some companies want you to jump your car through that thin wire, or power a heater, etc...

Off my cig lighter circuit (accessory!), I can have my radar detector going and cell phone charging; no problems...

I turned my Firebird "non-smoking" after the new seats and carpet... I also replaced the rear speaker covers with junkyard ones. My driver's side one was almost black! (The inside of my car is "dove gray", a bit more darker and bluish than light gray.)

Do you mean the lighter /socket/ or just the lighter itself? Any lighter will fit that hole... but if you're talking about the socket in the console, yeah, no auto store will carry that.

I got a a new lighter and socket from Canadian Tire. It came to under $10 (can). They're all pretty much standard, I've only seen two designs (of sockets) and you can get either to work, they way it connects is different. You just got to make sure the ligher's short enough for the lid close.
