Re: 2.8 throttle body
Get a good repair manuel and start reading. You will have more questions, but some of the ones you now have will be answered.IF I got it right, the TB directs and regulates the air flow going into the intake. It has sensers and valves along with the engine controle modual(ECM)that work with the injectors to deliver air fuel mix to the cylinders.the 2.8 uses maf and the 3.1 uses map.some of the stuff is,IAC valve.TPS,map senser,EGR valve, charcole canister, electric fuel pump, fuel filter, vent valve(back buy the gas tank)fuel rail, fuel regulator, vacum hoses, pvc valves, cold start injector(AKA 7th injector)and a bunch of other stuff. That will give ya some good stuff to chew on! GOOD LUCK!

Your 87 v6 would NOT be TBI, if it is stock. It should have 2.8l w/ MPFI - Multi-Port Fuel Injection.

Its pretty simple as it is. You could pull the coolant lines, but all the sensors and vacuum lines need to be there. Unless you ran something like a megasquirt and some how removed the need for TPS and IAC.

Although, I'm pretty sure you need IAC and TPS for your car to function with, or without Megasquirt. IAC has to do with your idle control, and I believe the TPS has to do with your timing based upon where the throttle is. These cars don't have vacuum controlled distributors.

Re: 2.8 throttle body
You don't necessarily need the IAC for the MS, but you DO require the TPS. However, if you're in a pollution controlled area, the best you can do is to piggy-back the MS to your existing ECM because the MS has no emissions controls. TPS is also used for fuel injection as well... Even the MS can't fire off the injectors more often if it doesn't know the throttle plate has been opened...
OP, the only thing you really can do to simplify the TB is to get rid of the coolant adapter. Unless you want to swap the upper plenum AND TB to delete the idle air bypass pipe and nipple as well (to 3.1 parts).

Hey Maverick,
What does the idle air bypass pipe do? ISnt the plenum for the 3.1 the same though? what parts would i need? Also, I am trying to get an understanding of the VAC lines on top of the TB>
