Low idle leading to engine dying?
Hey guys just ran into an issue a couple days ago, and ever since then the car has been running fine but still skeptical of it ever happening again. Well anyways, I was driving home from school and while at a stop light i idled for about 1-3 minutes and all of a sudden my car died on me. i had to turn the ignition key a good number of times in order for it to start back up, but before my car died i was experiencing a rough idle. I typically idle 500-700 when warm. Not so much on 500 but the needle is very close to touching it. Can anybody help me diagnose this problem? Also just recently I got a code reader and code 32 has popped up. I have read the forum specifically for this code, but I just wanted to add this info in just in case it may help others diagnose the problem. Please and thanks.

Does the check engine light constantly stay on? IIRC code 32 is a egr error. Mabey its getting stuck wide open at times.

500 is too low. Could be plugged IAC channels or even a defective IAC or TPS.

Are firebird tachs any better then camaro ones?? Because I know mine is horribly off and has been since I owned it 10 years ago when it had 33k miles on it. But camaros tachs are higher then what its is in reality.

No the light only goes on when it senses the problem(s) im assuming, but its not on when i first start the car and drive around a bit then it randomly comes on out of no where.

Does the light come on while its running bad? You are correct that the ses light only comes on while the fault is present.and code is stored after. You can disconnect the batteries for a few minutes to clear the code and drive it to see if it comes back. Also clean your throttle body and ensure there are no vacuum leaks.try that first and see what comes up.

Re: Low idle leading to engine dying?
Late notice, but I was finally able to doing this, but I bought a new tps that I havent installed yet as I wanted to see if sea foaming my car would clear the problem. I read that my problem could be due to clogged or dirty vacuum pipes. But to no avail my idle (in overdrive) is still the same and is still around 600 and getting close to almost hitting 500.
The only problems I could think of right now after reading up on this problem and referring back to this place is 3 things: TPS, IAC, and EGR Valve.
No idea when I will be able to get around and do this, but I will be sure to keep you guys posted. I have a new TPS that i bought from autozone, but wasnt sure if I should install new stuff until after I sea foamed my car.

Re: Low idle leading to engine dying?
so yea i feel stupid now. Went to O'Reilly instead of Autozone since my friend told me they were more helpful and knowledgeable and the guys took a look at my car and diagnosed my problem and said it could really be anything but suggested that i replace my vacuum tubes first and go from there. Changed a couple of them today and turns out my idle is still low but higher than before! So im really hoping that after changing them all out my problem will finally be fixed
