Hmmm...you didn't say I was wrong, so...I'm going to guess Borg-Warner S369SX-E.

Yeah it's the 369. I think it will spool just the same but make bigger power. It's physically quite large though but she'll fit.

Thought I would update the thread. Turbo is in. I changed the gates around a little and placed the turbo in such a way that I can fit the larger airfilter.

The weather is starting to come around now, lots of smaller things left to do but I'm finding the time to pick away at it.

Why did you go with the s369? Trying to find the limits of the stock rods/pistons?

Interesting... you have a build thread anywhere that I can check out?

Mars, looks good! Did you do the heads on the 3.9 too or just the bigger turbo this winter?

Nothing serious now, just uploaded all the pics onto my PC in order to start one, which should be soon.

Here's a little thread just to help keep some action going over there...

Bam, won 2000$ last saturday. First place in a braket race.

Car was running dead on the dial. 7.55 1/8 mile @ 5 psi boost.

Congrats! That is a good payout. Running that consistent you could make a good amount of money this summer with that setup. Its payed for itself already!

Nice! You should take it to Grand Bend on July 9th for the no prep race, looks like they have a good pay out to win!

Re: 3900 IROC-Z28 buildup.
Congrats that's a good payout. Cars looking nice as always. 7.55 1/8th on 5psi of boost..... Awsome. You definitly have set tue bar on performance for turbo v6 thirdgens on this board. You are motivation for others such as myself to keep building what we have and make them better and better. Keep it up!

Wow most V8's can't even lay claim to 7.55 in the 1/8 with just 5 pounds of boost.

That converts to a mid 11 seconds in the 1/4...

What did it trap?

Stock bottom end.

Didn't re-gap the rings, didn't take the heads off.

Stock gaskets, Stock head bolts.

Has a cam, spacers and springs.

I think I was going 90-92 MPH most of the weekend.

I was thinking: "What? That's it? that should be like a mid to low 14..."

Then I realized you were doing that funny short racing of only 660 feet... lol

Yep, 1/8 mile up here. They shut down airports, bring in a timing system, then we race.

haha.

this is why I have been pushing for more people to do this engine swap.

stock bottom end on 5 psi can run 11's easily. I mean what other motivation does one need?

Even if you don't plan on boosting your engine, if you have an old third gen running a 3.1 with a distributor, you have to turn the upper intake around to install it, and in doing so you can still use a distributor which means you can keep the factory harness and computer and get a chip since timing will be different for the aluminum heads.

Re: 3900 IROC-Z28 buildup.
Raced again last weekend.

I entered the car in street class as well as Semi-pro - no box. 2 full days of racing, 2 classes. Burnt a full tank of gas, no idea how many runs I got in, but it was a TON.

Was running Nitto 555 Extreme drag radials in both classes. Car picked up speed with these, was able to run 7.35 a couple of times, again at just 5 psi.

Basically added weight with the rollbar, and since adding the BW turbo, car has gotten faster still.

Didn't make out so well in semi-pro, I think 3rd round both days, but got third place in street class on Saturday out of god knows around 60-80 cars (100$ cheque).

So, making cash with the car, and just DEAD reliable.

I think I'll have vids later on there.

Is this a rwd 3.4 block with a lz9 top end or is it the entire fwd engine?

Complete 3900 lz9 Fwd engine. Lz9 heads do not fit the older 60* engines.

Re: 3900 IROC-Z28 buildup.
Figured I'd update this before the end of the year and I put the car to bed.

Got second place at another race at TMP a couple weeks ago. Was running an 11.50 index class pro tree.

I went red in the final, so second place it was.

So, MORE passes with the 3900, just a wicked engine !!

Gonna take it to work all next week, change the oil, and off to sleep it goes for the winter.

Hopefully won't roll the thing on my way home. HA.

I am planning on running drag week 2017 with it, But before then, it will be getting a TH400, a better rear end, and some other reliability things.

That's all for 2016.

Re: 3900 IROC-Z28 buildup.
Thanks for the update. Im going to drag week 2018 at least thats the plan. If you go that year I bet we will be the only 10 second V6 thirdgens there....lol I know im only at a 11.20s now but 10s are in the future im sure.

Dont roll the car this year!

New project.

Still here, been driving the car around town this summer a bit.

Got third place in June in a local braket race. 100$ and a trophy.

Going to race an index class next month on Sept 15.

Car still runs fantastic. I have a drag week thread I think somewhere on here.

Car is unchanged.

Myself and 2 other friends have built a 95 sonoma 3500 for endurance racing. We are actually doing well with the truck.

You, can follow along on Facebook search for "DOT Motorsports". Like the page.

That is all.

Quote: Installed the new intercooler it's an Ebay special CXracing 31X12X4 unit. These seem to get good reviews online,so I decided to get one. My old IC had both inlets on the same side and it was alot of extra piping and very tight bends to get it all to work. The piping for this one will be alot cleaner and less cramped.

Attachment 352652

Hopefully the cooler intake charge will offset the shear weight of this heavy ****.

Throttle cable braket for my 4.3L 75mm TB. Works perfect and looks OK I suppose.

Attachment 352654

Fits perfect !

Attachment 352655

Drivers side hotside, I figured truck manifolds setups work soo well, and using 14ga. pipe this should be STRONG.

Attachment 352656

I picked up a used 3.45 9 bolt rear :

Attachment 352657

Got some pics of my goodies for the rear end.

Attachment 352658

Spohn Weld on LCARB's.
3.45 rear end 9 bolt.

Attachment 352659

TA perf. cover
ARP carrier bearing studs
MSF racing BW78 series rear drag spool
JEGS extended wheelstuds

I just have to drop everything off to some reputable shop and get all the bearings changed and the backlash set. Not doing it myself as the last time I set up a rear end it lasted 100 miles.

Should have more pics of the rest of the car soon, work is coming along, still shooting for May racing, worst case June.
where did you get the injectors that fit in the 3900
