Re: Feiro v6 will it fit and work

Thanks, my 13 year old daughter runs a camaro for a dirt track car and we need to change the motor and i came across the feiro motor from a 85-86, just need to change intake to carb setup if it is the same motor.

Re: Feiro v6 will it fit and work

It will work, but is not a direct bolt in.

The Fiero uses a FWD equivalent (transverse mounted) and therefore the starter is on the wrong side and the RWD (longitudinal) starter pad is usually modified to fit around the transmission, especially if it's bolted to an automatic, though IIRC all transverse mounted blocks were made this way.

One of the bellhousing bolts is not threaded, it's the one that is above the RWD starter pad.

I don't recall how the engine mounts pads are in the Fiero, whether they are RWD mount pads or FWD mount pads.

Re: Feiro v6 will it fit and work

Well there's a few differences that may hamper installation like the starter on the opposite side and it's a transverse engine. Might just look for a camaro/firebird motor for direct swap.

Edit- Do'h 6 shooter got to it.

Re: Feiro v6 will it fit and work

get a fuel injected engine out of any camaro or firebird and put ur carb intake on it , the fuel injected engines will make 20-30 more hp over the carbed engines and they are much more durable the 2.8/3.1/3.4 engines out of the f-body will all bolt in

look for engines in the 89-94 year range , be aware all these engines are internally balanced so u will need the correct flexplate/flywheel

are u allowed engine mods? with a head swap and cam change u can make around 300 hp

turbos superchargers prolly arent allowed right

the fuel injected engines have better cyl heads with larger valves otherwise they are the same as the carb engines so swaping one of those in place of the carb engine will give u a power increase

swapping to a 93-94 3.4 will be about a 60hp increase over the 2.8

Re: Feiro v6 will it fit and work

The rules say no mods, no turbos or such.. The max is 3.1 for a GM and i want the carb setup because all the wiring is gone and it would be simplar to maintain and when she moves up she will be used to carbs and such. I think as long as they dont run numbers we could be ok. Don't need to get DQed,lol

the 3.1 is a 2.8 with a longer stroke crank , and thats actually the only way to tell them apart , so a 90-92 engine will be the 3.1 and offer a good hp increase even once u ditch the fuel injection intake for the carb but the 3.1 is a class legal engine for u anyways

while im not one to fudge the rules really the 3.4 block is identical to the 2.8/3.1 and under visual inspection noone would know the difference

all engines use the same cyl head with the exception of the carbed engines which have heads with crappier ports and smaller valves then the fuel injected heads

on a side note if u get a 3.1 u can take a 2.8 piston flycut it and end up with a 10.2-1 cr engine , but without any other engine mods it really wouldnt be worth it

5 speed car? im not sure what gears are in it now should be 3:42's ,atleast thats what all the fuel injected 2.8 cars got , but a set of 4:10's would wake the thing up

A 3.1/3.4 with roller rockers and FWD heads would be a monster (in V6 terms that is...)

Yes, but it would have the same issues as using a transverse mounted engine, from the Trooper, anyway. I don't recall teh details of the earlier Wagoneer V6. I would think it would be easier to find an S-series or F-body V6 than a Wagoneer though.
