Re: More power out of my 3.1
Our 3.1L V6 engines provide a lot of torque and reliability. They can take a lot of abuse and still keep running. However, they were not designed to provide much horsepower without some significant modifications. The one simple thing I did that provided the most increase in hp was to install a warm air intake (WAI). I did this by removing the snorkel on the air filter box and drilling some extra holes. More air = more power. I also replaced the stock paper air filter with a high flow air filter. A cold air intake (CAI) would increase performance even more.
Of course, a good tune up (plugs, wires, spark plugs, dizzy cap and rotor, 10 degree advance timing) should be the first step. I also replaced the stock catalytic converter with a high flow cat. Then once every 3-4 months, I'll run a third of a bottle of Sea Foam through a full tank of gas.
Those are all low cost easy modifications that will increase performance. After that, you're looking at internal engine modifications, turbo installation, nitrous, or replacing your 3.1 with a 4th generation 3.4L engine. These are all expensive, require a high level of technical skill, and will likely take several months to get done if you do it yourself. There are some members on this forum who have gotten amazing hp out of their V6's. I'd love to drive Fasteddie's V6 just to experience all that hp.
However, I love the feel of the torque when driving my V6 even though I won't ever have a whole bunch of horsepower. I've put most of my resources into modifying the suspension which makes it even more fun to drive. With my beefed up suspension, a mechanic friend, who has owned several V8 Camaros/Firebirds, tells me my car handles better than any GM pony cars he's owned. Plus, my Third Gen always beats V6 Mustangs off the line.
Hope you enjoy your Third Gen as much as I enjoy mine.

One's I can think of right now are Thirdgenranch.com, southbayfuelinjectors.com (great place for new & rebuilt injectors), Hawksthirdgenerationparts.com, rickscamaros.com, fbodymotorsports.com, and brucesthirdgenparts.com. Also, check your local junk yards for used parts. Local auto parts stores (NAPA, Autozone, Advance Auto) have lots of parts for our cars on their web sites and local stores. You've already found Rock Auto (my favorite), but Ebay often has good buys on new & used Third Gen parts. Of course, you'll find lots of stuff on this forum's classified sections.

Re: More power out of my 3.1
Id start with a good tune up if you havent as of yet. Just make sure that everything is in good order.
Then you can do little things like add a nice cat back exhaust for sound and a tad better exhaust flow. You can get a warm air induction of some kind. I had this on my car back when I was just trying to grab a few extra HP and make the engine bay look better. These are off of some 2.8L and TPI camaros. I got this puppy at a junk yard for 25 bucks a few years back. It is definitly the best air intake you can put on it.
Hope you can see this pic. Im not sure where it is on my computer anymore...

I will warn you that these engines are great for reliability and preformance but for good preformance you need to do serious mods to really make it faster. Its a PITA to even get 150-160Hp out of these things with at least swaping cams and working the heads. Our heads, intakes, and ex manifolds are just plain old junk stock. Thankfully Gm gave us a good size gear in the rear and the short 1st gear on the 700r makes the car seem alot faster arround town then it really is.
But you can easily make the car funner to drive with some exhaust, a different air intake mainly for looks though, and if you put some 3.73 gears in the rear end it will be a blast to drive arround. I owned my camaro for 9 years before getting into modding up the engine, it was always a fun car to drive even when it was stock.
