spark plugs

i changed my plugs yesterday, and #3 had a broken electrode?

i put the new one in and ran it.... pulled it out , and it was fine.

think it was just a bad manufactured plug, or could my piston have hit it?

Are you refering to the curve portion of the electrode or the little black part button that comes out of the center of the porcelain? if it is the little black button it could have just been detonation. Which is usally caused by lugging the engine.

re.spark plug

the bent part . now. today i had to drive to laughlin,nv "75 miles" and it ran like a champ down there. i parked for about 25 minutes and when i came back i was climping a hill and it started running like it was on 5 cylinders again. i pulled over , checked that plug, and there was a big chunk of black s*it on it, the bent electrode was fine. i put another plug in it and it ran ok back to vegas. could it be carbon on top the piston? i don't know.

Run an engine flush through it then change the oil. Run higher octane and see what happens...

It may be a build up of some kind. I would try fuel cleaners. Oil cleaners really wont clean the piston tops.(Oils not supposed to get there)

hey guys, an old man(friend of my father's) taugt me this trick. if you want to get rid of all the carbon off the top of your pistons do this:
1get a cup of water
2start your car
3pull a vacume line and dip it in the cup of water
4let your car suck the water out till engine starts running rough
5repeat steps 3 and 4 till cup is emty
6 the guy said that somtimes it takes like 45 minuts for the car to
stop smoking and crap
7the top of your pison are clean like new again

Hmm, I never heard of it being done like this. We've all heard the "misting" stories, and you've all read the flame war on the tech board about it. I'd be curious to try this. Tomorrow when I go to exchange my vacuum gage (broke it... oops!) and I hook it up and I'm not pulling at least 15 PSI, I'll try it (got nothing to loose with this POS).
