lifting my car
hey
i need some advice on how i could lift my car so i can safely fit underneath of it so i can do some work
my folks would rather not have me use the garage
i have a stone driveway with not too many stones left in it
i was thinking if i could brush the stones outta the way------would the car sink????
per say if jacked it up and put ramps underneath all 4 wheels
i still dont think that would be high enuff though
dilemma
lemme hear your ideas!!!!!!!!!

Use jack stands under each end of the axle, and under the A-arms on the front. Under the jack stands place pieces of 3/4 inch ply wood to keep them from sinking.

What exactly do you need under your car to do? Is it just to get under, or do you have to unstall something.
I would go with CHEVYPWR on the Jackstands, and definitaly use 3/4 Ply wood to ballance... If you only want 2 wheels up at a time, leave the jack under the rear axle so if one of the jack stands decides to go you still have something to save you from being crushed.
But I would also use Ramps with Ply wood underneath then, and drive up the. If you driveway has a little slope to it, it would be good, you can get quite a bit of height off them. I would say the rams are the safest, just remember to block wheels and use the E-brake.

yeah you may think i am a nut but:
i think i will use plywood all around........
2 ramps in the front
and 4 jackstands in the back-2 on each side of the axle
safety is important to me.........
i mean i just wanna know how to do this the safest way for future reference.....................

If your parents won't let you in, I'd find a garage to borrow. Do they think you'll make a mess? Brake cleaner does wonders for removing oil/transfluid/brake fluid/etc from concrete floors.
If not, you could do what I did when I did my fuel pump outside on my side of the driveway (bluestone). I bought 6" thick, 12"x12" blocks of concrete, and put the jackstands on those, on top of the bluestone. I then used 2x6 boards underneath my hydraulic jack to lift the car into the air high enough to slide the jackstands underneath. I put the jackstands in their usual spot; on the rear frame rail just "in front of" the rear lower control arms.
The concrete blocks were only a couple bux each; maybe you could buy enough and make your own pit area!

I use raise the rear by lifting the pumpkin and use jack stands on the axle and jack the front of the car up by the LCA's and put the jack stand on the sub frame. I have felt comfortable laying/Sitting with the car almost 20 inches off the ground.(The sitting was when I was replacing the clutch and I had the trans gear box and drive shaft already out)

I love Rhino Ramps.. Drive up the front and jack the rear with jack stands. If you are worried about them sinking I would put a 24X24 square piece of wood under each one if the driveway is flat, but just tick them in the dirt, let them sink, fill it in, then do it over..
Camaro_hunter_d, how hard is it to replace the clutch? also wouldnt a clutch be a wise mod, because there is allot of power that is lost in the drivetrain. what clutches do you reccomend? soon i think i am going to need a clutch, because lately its meen slipping
realy pissing me off... the clutch went through 97k so i guess its got a decent life's worth...

And yes it made a HUGE difference once replaced with the one over stock. I could not slip the clutch anymore, meaning those 3rd gear chirps became a reality, no longer a foul rotten egg stench of the burning clutch when I hammered a igher gear.

) No prob I got over that long ago.
If you can get the lift TAKE IT!. I coulda been done in 45 minutes If I has a lift(And had the Flywheel turned as soon as it got out!). It took me 3 days! to get the damn thing done. I coulda been done in 1 but cold garage, having to crawl all over to find tools, and only working on it MAYBE 45 minutes to an hour for 2 days and having to wait untill the day after christmas for the damn machine shop to open up to turn the flywheel.(35 bucks!
