1992 Firebird 3.1L. Missing part and I don't know what it is
1992 Firebird 3.1L. Missing part and I don't know what it is
I purchased this car non running. Everything seems to check out except one part on it seems to be burnt melted and has a hole in it.
car will barely start most times and when it does start I have to give it gas but it won't stay running unless I keep my foot on the pedal. Fuel filter and pump seems to be good and it's reading no codes.
but I noticed a burnt part and it's melted with a hole in it. I have no clue what part it is and I was hoping someone could help me identify the part and could it be the reason the car won't idle or run. I will try to upload a picture.
But the location of the part is on the passenger side
front lower corner of the engine block. It's behind the lower passenger side pulley

That's part of your a.i.r pump. It pumps air into your exhaust to lower emissions. Maybe why your car wont idle But not 100% on that. But yeah start there. I completely removed that whole unit pulley and all and got a shorter belt. If you don't have to meet emmissions were you are i would remove it. On you tho.

Hard to see but looks air pump related, I don't think this would affect your running much, I removed mine also with shorter belt. Have you done a good tune up of all the basics first ?

How much do you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running ? Maybe look at the IAC , adjust the throttle stop screw to keep it running whist you check things ?? And get it warmed up get some fresh fuel flowing around and oil .

So I went out and checked the throttle screw and it’s not contacting to open the throttle. It’s actually so filed down and smooth that it looks like it never has contacted anything.

Hi, yeah for sure could be a problem, there is a way to set minimum idle, there is a procedure for it some where round here in the techy section. Anyways like I said I'd screw it out or wedge somin in there just so I can get it started and running without having to sit in it with your foot on the gas.

Coolant line quick-disconnect. They're on the shelf at most parts stores. GM fullsize trucks used them on the intake manifolds, and they always break. Smarter fix is a barbed fitting, a short piece of heater hose and a couple clamps.

Thanks for the reply I definitely want a cheap quick fix until I get the car at least running before I start spending replacing parts
