I'd assume that it would be the same as the 2.8's... up under the passenger side dash. You'll recognize it right away cause its got a whole **** load of wires going into it

it SHOULD pop a code if the self diag function of the ECM fails. I forget the # right now. But anyway it may be the prob as the ECM may not be powering up all the way. Go to www.car-parts.com and check the prices on that. Probly cheaper then anywhere else. Its a nation wide parts search.

No Prob thats what I'm here for! LOL

EDIT if the link does not work frop the s from parts. www.car-part.com

I just did a quick search and already below $50 bucks. Minus prom REUSE your old one. The CHIP itslef is probly not bad but a part of the circuit board. And if the chip is bad get the ECM for like 20(I'm sure its that low and get a hypertec or something from autozone for 99 bucks. ECM and Chip for 130ish is not bad.

So You would suggest replacing the chip also?

The Prom is the chip. You should call(You will have to anyway to order the ECM) To see if it DOES include the PROM/Chip. It more then likely will. BUT if the new ECM does not work either take it ahve both tested. YOU MAY find that the Chip is gone/Burned out. Then get the aftermarket chip.

Do you have the 3.1? and if the systems, Speed density(ON 3.1) versus MAF(On 2.8) are compatible I would think so. So make sure both cars have the same sensors, and measuring systems (Speed denisty) (MAF) there should be no probs. KEY WORD SHOULD. But if nothing else get one for the right year make model and you KNOW it's the same.

I'm just wondering, cause we have a Cutlass at home.

All the the places I could get the ECM from are closed when I get out of work.

So I will have to wait till saturday, thats too long.

Well I will try, and see waht happens...

Yup. That happened to me. It was kinda flaky. It would chose when it didn't want to start. As a last resort I replaced the ECM and bingo no more no start problems.

Doesn't your car have some type of VATS starting system?
Tell us you have played with a test light for the coil to distributor power?
And then test light on the modular?

The VATS can be disabled. you have to find the VATS wire that goes to(NOT FROM) the comp and measure the current it sends. Then get a Low voltage wire supply to match that current and patch it in and cut the original. OR find where the wire runs in the column and cut it there at the source, then go through the wiring system to find exactly where it interceeds into the ignition system and remove that junction and splice the wires back togeather.

Go to parts store and ask.
They go for as low as $5.
As simple as a a bulb with two ends on the wire, to test current. Just touch to ends and check current, not amount of current.
I PROMISE, WHEN YOU HAVE CURRENT AND YOU TOUCH IT IN THE IGNITION SYSTEM, YOU KNOW IT!!
Right Tom?
Your VATS must be screwed up.
Seems like you didn't know about it?
How are the rainbows?
I MISS THEM
Happy hunting!
