Installed!!!

Installed a new Oil Pressure sender unit last night. Even had it delivered by the local Chevy dealer. Who ever said this job could be completed from the top with a crescent wrench must have used a small one. I had to complete the job starting under the car. However, I was sucessful! The pressure reads about 60 when warm and there are no leaks. I should have bought the socket that was suggested.

Cool! Yeah I don't know anyone changes it from the top. My arm is to big to get to it at a good angle. The socket does make life a little easier.

I had to do mine from below, too... but mine didn't break... I was putting in a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I was "blessed" with an idiot-light dashboard... oh well. I really like the "that guy added gauges to his car" look!

I took mine out from the top also. Not having things in the way like heads, fuel lines, etc help out. the other (small 2-prong)connector is for the fuel pump cut off is it not? it looks like the oil pressure unit for non-guage clusters

It's the fuel pump, yeah, but it's not a cut-off. It's a "fuel pump safety switch". If your fuel pump relay takes a $hit, and your engine's running, since oil pressure is up, the safety switch will keep the motor running. I assume it's there so we don't get killed if the pump dies when we try to merge onto a highway. The car will run & start fine with that connector unplugged, but you'll have no backup in case the relay dies.

The later model 2.8/3.1's use a "combo" sensor. Instead of 2 oil pressure sensors (gauge/light and pump), it's one big sucker that runs both, with a combined electrical connector. I had thought this started in '87, but I recently saw an '87 with the two sensors... so this must've started in 1988.
