4.3 vs 3.8 vs 3.4 swap?
4.3 vs 3.8 vs 3.4 swap?
Everyone seems to always talk about doing the 3.4 swap with 160hp and 194lbs/ft, but insn't this engine the same exact one that was in the 93 > 95 v6 f bodies?
What woould be better for performance in a thirdgen? the 3.8 v6 from the 96+ models or the 4.3 from the late model pickups.
200hp 225ft/lbs vs 190hp 250 ft/lbs.
Its either having higher peak hp or better torque curve......
The car would have a manuel trans.....

All will fit, just depends on how much time/money you wish to invest in the whole project. The 3.8/4.3 will require trannies from the donor vehicle, & if FI, the ecm & harness, among other things.
edit: do a search in the engine swap section. They even cover those of us thinking about the poncho 400 swap :hail:

putting in the 3.8/4.3 would be the same as swapping in a V8. its the same degree block. so you need all the V8 install parts. The only reason for swapping in the 90* V6 is to keep it a V6 car.
A 3.4 wouldn't be worth the time it take's to put it in. Same with the 3.8. Besides the extra horsepower of the larger 3.4 or 3.8 there still isn't a whole lot to do to them in the bolt on market except for a supercharger or engine mods.
A 1993 to 1995 VORTEC CPI rated at 195hp and 265ftlbs will be better than the 3.4 or 3.8
But why not go V-8??

Hey Cody, can you do a Smog Legal engine swap, increase your horsepower & reliablity and car life longevity, all for $800, including engine?
Doubt it, unless you swap in a 3.4.
Ask Fast RS how sanitary and smog legal my swap looked. Then ask him how fast we went, then went faster, all with a 3.4.

Jeez, you can swap any motor on earth into a 3rdgen. BBC's, LT5's........anything.
The logic behind the 3.4 swap is that it's SIMPLE . Any other motor swap has the same degree of difficulty as swapping in a V8. Different trans, suspension, harness, blah blah blah. The 3.4 is a drop in motor....that easy, plus there are no emissions issues.

Think of it this way. You want the 4.3, you might as well of put in the 350. Because you need all the same mounts, radiator, transmission suspension parts etc. 3.8 is more difficult due to heads if I am correct.
Therefore making hte 3.4 the easiest. Pull out 2.8 Duplicate, and reinstall.
Like the all said any engine will work. But what is the easiest for you.
